conservation: Wow! An answer to the Gas Challenge AND our Landfill space!?!?!?!?!!!! - 07/24/08 11:29 PM
AR Friends, you are going to LOVE this!!!
Watch the short video below to learn about a process that combines:
water + landfill waste (anything and everything in it)
applies pressure - and the end result is
gas to power the plant and diesel to power motor vehicles!!!
No joke!!! check it out!   How perfect is that!   A dream come true!   We can eliminate, or come close, the need for landfills (Hallelujah!) and produce an alternative fuel source at the same time...!
WOW!

conservation: Dream project: Selling 12,500 to the State of Florida for future generations to enjoy! - 03/30/08 10:47 AM

12,500 acres of pinelands, lakes, swamps and pastures.  Twenty-three threatened and/or endangered species, including the recent addition of a pair of whooping cranes that have taken up residence on the property. Portions of two former ranches protected as a whole since the mid 1970's as buffer for a wellfield for the greater St. Petersburg, FL area.  Owned by one county government Pinellas) within the boundaries of the neighboring county (Pasco), causing "water wars" in Florida's Tampa Bay area for years.  Over the decades, cooler heads have brought reason to bear, a desalination plant has been built (although not running to expectations yet) and the wellfields on … (10 comments)

conservation: Road Trip Day Six - FOG!!!! - 10/19/07 10:44 AM
We wake up to serious fog - or at an elevation of 5000 - serious clouds!  I could hardly see to drive!  So it was slow driving, and the wonderful colors we had been enjoying cast a faint glow overhead.
Aunt G decided it was best, given the weather forecast for rain over the next two days for us to turn back and head for home.
It was slow going most of the day and few drivers other than us.  We had a couple of bright spots, and I got in a wonderful 50 minute hike up to the Erwin View of … (4 comments)

conservation: Road Trip Day Five--Doughton National Park! - 10/19/07 01:22 AM
We have more time today - we only have to cover 50 miles of the Parkway.  Aunt Gina made reservations for us at the Bluff Lodge in Doughton National Park.  If you've never stayed at a national park, it is a unique experience.  It's like having your own national park all to yourself, or yourself and a small group of new friends for one night.

So we left Boone and headed north stopping first at beautiful old home that after being donated to the National Park Service was turned into an Arts and Crafts store.  It was loaded with beautiful … (3 comments)

conservation: How many agencies does it take to spend $300 Million a year in Florida? - 10/09/07 08:28 AM
An even dozen (not to be confused with a baker's dozen!
Today I'm focusing on the five water management districts that receive funds from Florida Forever.  In Florida, our water resources are managed along geologic water basins.  The management of the basins is governed by independent boards, appointed by the governor, who have ad valorem taxing authority.  Interesting setup, wouldn't you say?  Contrary to western water law, in Florida, the water is owned by the public, not the fee simple land owner so the water management districts (WMD) were created and empowered to protect, promote, restore and provide water resources and … (5 comments)

conservation: Energy Industry Seems to Have a Different View of the World... - 10/02/07 02:31 PM
I just left an interesting and entertaining dinner this evening, listening to three men from various backgrounds discuss the ins and outs of power generaton.
It was the 4th time in the past 2 months that I have taken the opportunity to hear what energy representatives are saying about the "state of the world" so to speak.  Of the three tonight, only one actually worked at one time for the industry, a local power company here in Florida.  The other two were a university professor and a former nuclear power regulator.  It made for a nice mix of information.  But what stuck … (13 comments)
