I often find myself wondering why things are the way they are.  I had a friend call me in a panic yesterday.  She was crying and was hardly understandable.  She kept saying, "He didn't make it, he didn't make it."  Because she is pregnant, my mind instantly flew to her and the baby.  I am so thankful I was wrong about that.  Her heart was broken because her husband went away to try out for Special Forces and didn't get selected.  She felt responsible for the outcome despite this training being as intense as the Army's Ranger competition, I'm sure.  I tried … (6 comments)

New Military Off-Post Housing for Ft. Bragg - 03/17/08 09:56 AM
With all of the new housing areas going up outside the community, Ft. Bragg is getting in on the action in full force.  Picerne Housing, a privatized organization serving our on-post community, is now responsible for the Linden Oaks Housing area.  This area is comprised of over 1500 Junior Enlisted homes, Senior Enlisted homes, Company Grade Officer homes and Field Grade Officer homes.  There are criteria you must meet in order to be eligible to be placed in that area.

With an increase in population throughout Fayetteville and its surrounding counties, you may have a motivated high school senior or junior who needs to prepare for college.  Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) has a program that offers free classes for those seniors and juniors.  While tuition is free, you will have to purchase the required books.  This should help them prepare and get a good start for the road ahead of them.

Lodging near Ft. Bragg can be categorized as friend or foe.  It will all depend on how well you are prepared for the transition.  While there are many short-term and long-term lodging facilities, the Extended Stay America is one that is dog friendly.  They do charge an additional price for this service.  Since this is the beginning of our peak season for PCS moves I would make reservatios at least 30-45 days out.  Everyone is trying to get to their next location with time to get settled in for their kids to start school.  Be sure to ask about some of the … (2 comments)

  Welcome to Ft. Bragg, NC, Home of the 82nd Airborne Division. You are among the most elite group of Soldiers in the Armed Forces.  Ft. Bragg is located in the city of Fayetteville just SW of Raleigh, our state capital.
