Renovation rescue

We were set to transform our outdated kitchen (the real estate agent called it "retro," we called it "tacky") into a culinary retreat. And then the tile guy vamoosed in the middle of the job, leaving half the wall periwinkle blue, and the other covered with brown and orange flowers. (We called it "maddening," he never called back.)
