As a first generation Muslim woman of Pakistani descent, Rubi Nicholas is the antithesis of what one would expect with such a strong ethnic background. Born to a culture steeped in the tradition of the quiet, compliant female, Rubi breaks the mold. Far from choosing the typical life as an obedient wife, she has walked a variety of career paths, chosen a non-traditional family route and now, has succeeded in breaking even more rules. Rubi’s humor incorporates her ethnic heritage, her family (1 comments)

Ashland's Historic A.B.A. Parade 2012 - 08/29/12 05:59 PM
Ashland will commemorate the historic Ashland Boys' Association (A.B.A.) Parade known as the Mardi Gras of the anthracite coal region. The parade route per tradition will be along Centre and Walnut streets and the parade committee invites entries from outside the borough. The parade will be the same motorcade format as last year with fire trucks, floats and old cars. The parade size will be nothing bigger than a fire truck housing or block party parade. Parade entries will have the ABA maroon and white colors, American flags or 'Welcome Home ABA' signs. Anyone from Schuylkill County or beyond can volunteer (0 comments)
When we represent buyers in Pottsville, Orwigsburg, Schuylkill Haven or other towns in Schuylkill County, we always advise the buyer get a home inspection. Even if it's new construction, it's best to have a professional home inspector look at the home and give you his or her advice. I frequently use one of two local home inspectors, Dave Teter at Down Home Inspections Inc. in Orwigsburg or in Dean Conrad at Dependable Home Inspections LLC in Pottsville. Both Dave and Dean are solid, reliable home inspectors. They know Schuylkill County well, and in the years I (3 comments)

The sale was moving along, until tenant talked about mold - 08/27/12 06:04 PM
Is it mold or mildew in you Schuylkill County home? All houses need proper ventilation or you could see mold or mildew. Don't panic! Make sure that bathroom has good ventilation. Wipe walls down with bleach to take care of mildew and install fans for proper ventilation Via Pacita Dimacali - ePRO, SRES, CDPE, MBA Alain Pinel in Alameda County CA (Alain Pinel): The sale was moving along, until tenant talked about moldThere was a fabulous offer, and it was promptly accepted. Tenancy by the Entireties - 08/27/12 05:53 PM
Schuylkill County home buyers, how you "take title" does matter! Make sure when you go to close your home that the closing company or attorney titles the property exactly the way you want it. Tenancy by the Entireties is a unique way of taking title that only spouses can use. Via Captain Wayne Rowlett - Florida Real Estate School (Rowlett Real Estate School LLC): A tenancy by the entireties is ownership by husband and wife, treated as one owner. This is important, because judgment debts of only one of the parties do not result in a valid lien against the marital property. Survivability (0 comments)
Schuylkill County Rent To Own - 08/25/12 11:02 AM
We don’t get that many properties where the owners will “play bank” and finance the home for the buyer, but when we do demand is high. These properties may or may not be listed on our MLS. We just listed 5 properties where the owner will accept cash for the properties, or he will hold the financing for you if you qualify. The properties and their addresses are: 595 Wade Road, St. Clair PA 17970 – Listed at $18,900 159 Schuylkill Avenue, Shenandoah PA 17976 – Listed at $17,900 1023 Schuylkill Avenue, Pottsville PA 17901 – Listed at $17,900 381 Front (6 comments)
Selling a home in Schuylkill County takes corrrect pricing. Price it right, and it will sell in a resonable amount of time. Price it too high, and it will just sit on the market. Our inventory is high right now, but properly priced homes are selling within 4 to 5 months. We’re even seeing bidding wars in limited areas. We listed a house in Schuylkill Haven in August and had three offers within the first week. A house in Frackville listed in May and had six competing offers within the first (4 comments)

Touble with Appraisals - 08/22/12 05:20 PM
Here is some good advice from Alan Grizzle. Appraisers are hit or miss these days. Have they been in the comparable houses/ Do they know the neighborhood? Some days it is so difficult. Via Alan Grizzle (Chestatee Real Estate): Appraisals are still giving us fits. I just had an appraisal come in $50,000 below contract price. The home we HAD under contract was in great condition. One of the sales comp's he used had a backed up septic system, no well on the property, no shared well agreement for the well it is using and a leaky basement. No adjustment was made for (6 comments)
This is The 21st Century and I Cannot Believe We Have To Have This Talk - 08/21/12 04:31 PM
It is a shame that in the year 2012 we still have to write posts like this. It is illegal for real esate agents to discriminate against buyers or sellers -- there are FAIR HOUSING laws in Pennsylvania, and federal fair housing laws as well. Please understand we are not being difficult, but if you ask us certain questions we cannot legally answer them, Via Jackie Connelly-Fornuff Century 21 AA Lindenhurst NY (Lindenhurst NY Real Estate Agent): This is The 21st Century and I Cannot Believe We Have To Have This TalkToday I informed someone that lives near one of my listings that (2 comments)

Hillside SPCA Needs Adoptions! - 08/18/12 06:50 AM
URGENT! The Hillside finds itself at a crisis point. We are on overload with animals and desperately seek adoptions, especially of large do gs. It has become critical that we find homes for our buddies, many of whom have been waiting a really long time, in order to make room for the dogs that we will get in tomorrow. Hillside has worked diligently to keep an open door policy whereby no animal from the county is turned away because experience has shown that those animals often meet with a horrible fate; thrown out, abandoned, tied to a tree, left to starve, (6 comments)
