Police Warn Burglars Are Using Social Networks - 09/25/10 06:52 AM
Another 'makes sense to me' tip from Robert Siciliano...I try to post them every now and then to my Localism page 'Lebanon News to Use' because of their useful content.
Via Robert Siciliano (Identity Theft Speaker): The sage advice used to be “don’t tell the world you are on vacation via your outgoing answering machine.” Then we pretty much eliminated answering machines and the advice pertained to voicemail. As we got more technology, the same message was don’t tell the world you are on vacation via your emails auto responder. For a few years now I’ve been warning people about (3 comments)
Strong Passwords Aren’t Enough - 09/23/10 03:23 PM
Another great post from my colleague Robert Siciliano that I want to pass on to the readers of my Localism site...Good information for anyone who uses a computer on a regular basis.
Via Robert Siciliano (Identity Theft Speaker): I’ve said it before, use upper and lower case, use number and letter combinations and when possible, if the website allows it, use special characters. It has been documented that “Adding just one capital letter and one asterisk would change the processing time for an 8 character password from 2.4 days to 2.1 centuries.” It is great advice to strengthen your passwords. Mistakes To Avoid Prior To Home Ownership. - 09/21/10 08:46 AM
Herb Johnson writes some informative posts, many of which, like this one, I re-blog because of the content...His points here are good reading for anyone considering a purchase.
Via Herb Johnson Northern Kentucky Realtor, Remax (REMAX Affiliates): 1. Spending more than you make. This can lead to real danger in not being able to afford to purchase. Create a budget you can live with and cancel credit cards you do not use before applying for a loan. 2. Not Saving Enough for Down Payment and Closing Costs. Be sure to include these items when working on your home buying budget. It will be (2 comments)
More ATM Skimmers Being Used By Gangs - 09/13/10 01:19 PM
Robert always has good points to make about security...Locally, many businesses are now using the PIN panels with the built-in shield...Just always try to be careful...Someone else wants your money for nothing.
Via Robert Siciliano (Identity Theft Speaker): A report issued by the FTC finds that customers in the process of withdrawing cash from ATMs are more likely to be victims of ATM fraud than a direct, physical crime, and skimmer devices have recently been found on gas pumps and ATMs throughout Northern California. ATM skimming occurs when a device is placed on the face of an ATM, often over (2 comments)

Dealing with Online Harassment - 09/09/10 05:04 AM
Robert is a personal and home security expert. I find many of his posts interesting and like to pass them on when I think they are relevant to the general public. I thought this one was very informative. Enjoy.
Via Robert Siciliano (Identity Theft Speaker): I was watching Back to the Future II with a little person in my life and thought how funny it was that every time McFly was called a chicken he would accept the challenge and throw up his dukes. Maybe it’s funny to me because I’m kind of like McFly. When someone tosses out an (5 comments)
