Would you like a real life story?  I am sure you would.  I had a buyer who bought a home on Merrifield in the Alger Heights neighborhood of Grand Rapids, MI. It had been listed for a few months and I was tracking the home for my buyer. When it got down to $65,000 my buyer pulled the trigger and offerd $57,000.  So much less you ask? How did you come up with that fo an offer? According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics,when someone turns 65, they can expect to live until 83. The old model of retirement is long gone. And because of that, you need to have the goal of keeping yourself financially healthy for a possible 90 plus years of living.
