I know there are still lenders out there that think the 10 year Treasury bond controls the mortgage market but it doesn't and lately hasn't even been a viable indicator of what the market is doing. Mortgage rates are volatile. What else is new when talking about mortgage rates? Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS) are the basis for all mortgage rates for Fannie and Freddie and for government loans also. As we approach Veteran's Day (Nov. 11), I felt the need to pass on some information about VA loans that many people are not aware of. As a veteran, and a VA Home Loan participant, I believe one of the greatest things the country has done for veterans, is the VA Guaranteed Loan Program.
One of the little known portions of recent housing changes was Public Law 110-389, the Veterans' Benefits Improvement Act of 2008.
This law does three things:

Interesting day. Probably best expressed with the this video. I was ready for most anything but what happened. The stock market was in the tank...not too surprising...customers were calling me...refreshing...Realtors were calling me...timely...rates actually went down...kind of surprising...TV news wants to do an on air interview...SAY WHAT?
So what do you say when they ask? The nice young lady said she encountered two different kind of people, those that said no way, go away, I can't do that, and then those like me that can't keep their trap shut (not her words, mine).
