food: Oregon State University Extension Service helps people in Tough Times - 01/14/09 02:20 PM
Helping people that are having trouble, not just with making their mortgage payment on time, but puting food on the table or buying gas for their car is something that we all should be concerned with. Oregon State University has established links on the Extension Service website to do just that. There are a lot of groups available to help in times of need and I know there are people in need. I hope these links will help them. This was posted on my website today.

Bright Oak Meats, on the corner of 7th and Main Street in downtown Springfield Oregon is a real find. I didn't know about it until word of mouth reached my ear, and I had driven by it many times. See, I am not just about flowers and vegetables. I like meat too.
Local meat and different meat than you find in Safeway or Albertsons is what is available at Bright Oak Meats. But, what brought me in the door was the jerky. I love jerky and they make their own. Also, they have several different flavors of jerky.

Holiday Farm Restaurant
The Holiday Farm Restaurant is located, according to the postal address, in Vida OR. In reality, it is almost located in Blue River (the USPS thinks they are the same) but misses that by a few miles too.
So, the first thing to say is the food and the service was excellent. I will come back to that, because I want to talk about where it is first. The above mural is what you see when you pull up to the Springfield Farmers' market. The market is open every Friday (during the growing season) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The market is located between 5th & 6th Streets on Main Street in downtown Springfield. It is being held in the Springfield Museum parking lot.
When I was there today, there weren't very many vendors, but the ones there seemed to have a lot of great produce that was grown locally. I purchased some yellow grape tomatoes and lemon cucumbers. I guess it was my day to go … (3 comments)

food: Springfield Board of Realtors Chili Cook Off - 07/16/08 12:08 PM
It is time again for the Springfield Board of Realtors Great Chili Cook Off. The final judging will be done about noon Friday (July 18) in Springfield's Island Park. Just follow you nose to the competition. There are six competitors scheduled this year, but once they smell my chili, they may all drop out.
The competitors, beside me, are: Ann Ross, Equity/GMAC Realty; Steve Ouellette, Equity/GMAC Realty; Sherry Waters, Equity/GMAC Realty; Dave Mara, D.C. Real Estate; and Erin Gangestad, Western Title and Escrow.

OK gang, I want to see lots of responses to this posting. Where do you like to get your lunch? Where do you think the best value for your money is? Who has the best tasting fare? Why???
OK, here are my choices and they are not all inclusive, there may be others. First, for the best value, no place in the area offers a better one than Costco. Where else can you get an all beef quarter pound hot dog and a soda for only $1.50. Plus you can add your own toppings, including sour kraut. So, there is value … (3 comments)
