asheville: Square Footage Prices in the Asheville Area - 02/11/10 04:45 PM
People ask me why homes are so expensive in the Asheville area compared to the rest of North Carolina. Of course I tell them it's because it is the BEST place to live and value costs!! But seriously, there are several reasons. We don't have big builders who put up a 1000 homes a year or even 500. A builder buying 1000 toilets gets a better price than one buying 50. Our lots take more preparation. We live in the mountains. we build on hills. Sometimes there is rock to consider. Public sewer and water doesn't extend throughout the county so

asheville: Winter really hits Asheville - 01/15/10 06:25 AM
It is really nice to have a little bit of "warm" weather - that is - above freezing. Our winter has definitely not been the usual. We have had the longest cold spell on record. For 4 weeks we had only 3 or 4 days that went above freezing in the day time. We would normally expect a lot of days during this time period in the 40's and 50's. You never know what to expect with our weather. We did get to enjoy the beauty of a rare, big snow - anywhere from 10 inches to 20 inches

asheville: Asheville Area Real Estate - 05/18/09 08:02 AM
Things are looking up in Asheville. Showings are increasing, houses are selling and the inventory is slightly down. Our hardest hit was from last June through February this year. Now we are seeing very encouraging signs. It won't go quite to normal this year, I don't think, but it is on its way back up and I hope next year will be back to normal. Now is a great time to buy while prices are still a little soft and sellers still nervous.

asheville: Western North Carolina - 02/09/09 08:39 PM
This is a continuation of information on the towns of Western North Carolina and their location. I will continue with Henderson County in the next installment. I want to give you an update on real estate in our area. January saw more showings and more under contracts in our office. I heard the same thing from several other agents in different offices. It won't show up in the statistics probably until March, and we can't guarantee it will be sustained, but it is looking encouraging. Interest rates are great and we have mortgage companies with money. Your interest rate is

asheville: Where to find it in Buncombe/Asheville - 01/23/09 03:52 PM
. Ever hear the expression "That's a lot of bunk?" It seems that in 1820 there had been a long and difficult debate in Congress about the Missouri Compromise. Finally the vote was called, but Congressman Felix Walker, whose district included Buncombe County, stood and stated that he had to speak for his constituents - he needed to speak for Buncombe - whereupon he proceeded to ramble on while the others waited impatiently. Later one Congressman said to another, "That wasn't for Buncombe that was Buncombe." It was soon shortened to "bunkum" and then to "bunk" meaning meaningless words. This is

asheville: Where are all those towns in Western North Carolina? - 01/21/09 02:45 PM
If you are interested in real estate in Western North Carolina, and if you don't live here, you probably want to know "How far is Black Mountain?""Where is Woodfin - it isn't on the map". The MLS I belong to is the North Carolina Mountains MLS and covers 5 counties with stray listings from several other counties. It can be confusing to know where the listing is located in reference to Asheville or Hendersonville. Here are the 5 counties covered and the "major" towns in each county. Buncombe County Asheville, Weaverville, Black Mountain, Arden, Candler, Fairview Henderson County Hendersonville, Fletcher,

Asheville is blessed with many local restaurants in case you are tired of the chains. They have delightful names such as the Flying Frog Cafe, Tupelo Honey, Mamacitas, Laughing Seed and Bouchon. Every type of cuisine is available with a warm welcome in most places to vegetarians. Check out these and many more at this Independent Restuarant website. Of course there are many chain restuarants available too. You will never lack for good food in Asheville Eunice PearsonCENTURY 21 Mountain Lifestyleswww.ashevillehome.com

Welcome to the Asheville Area which includes Hendersonville and numerous small, nearby towns. People often ask me, Where is Fairview? What is the Asheville community like? Is everybody in Hendersonville retired? This blog is designed to acquaint you with the many communities in this area and to answer some of those questions. If you have questions, please post them and I will find an answer for you. If you live in this area and have suggestions and comments, please post them.
