The La Vina Winery has been doing wine harvest festivals for over 25 years. The spring Jazz and Blues festival has been an annual event for the past 15 years. I haven't been to the festival for the past few years. The last time I went, it was a much smaller event and the grounds were not groomed. Cinco de Mayo, which means "The 5th of May" in Spanish, is a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. It is not, however, Mexico's Independence day, a common misconception, which is actually held on the 16th of September (Dieciséis de Septiembre). Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday in Mexico that is mainly celebrated in the state of Puebla. The holiday, while not federally recognized by the Mexican government, is recognized and celebrated in the United States and other countries. Sun-News report Posted: 04/03/2009 12:00:00 AM MDT LAS CRUCES - The first of two annual open houses of Trinity Site, where the world's first atomic bomb was detonated, will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. But Monte Marlin, White Sands Missile Range spokeswoman, said people who want to attend the open house should be prepared for inclement weather. "I've looked at the early forecast and it's supposed to be 63 degrees (Fahrenheit), windy and a 40 percent chance of rain," Marlin said. "I'd recommend that people check the weather before coming."
