JURY DUTY SCAM: This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. Lower your Chances for Identity Theft - 08/12/07 05:30 PM
1. Shred all documents with sensitive financial information and SS#s.
2. Require anyone that solicits you over the phone to first send information by mail so you can verify legitimacy.
3. Always review your monthly credit card statments.
4. Always verify caller identity before giving out your SS# over the phone.
5. Opt out of preapproved credit card offers by calling (888) 567-8688.
6. Use anti-virus software, spyware, firewalls, and passwords to guard information on your PC.
