Kings Park, with models named King, Queen, Duke, Prince, etc, is located just west of the Capital Beltway (I-495) off Braddock Road. It is a popular community of 1,100 homes that were built in the 60s. There are five basic models - two colonials, one split foyer, one cape cod and one rambler. They are Richmarr homes who was the one of the premier Springfield developer/builders during the period. Of course, over time, many of the homes have been refurbished and had additions added. This gives the community a uniqueness and character that can only be developed over a rather lengthy period of time.

Karen,  Thank you very much for remembering all the WWII vets - I'm proud to be your husband and partner

Via Karen Kruschka - Fairfax Prince William Stafford County VA Real Estate Service (Long & Foster America's #1 Privately Owned Real Estate Co.):

The title above was a comment made by a gentleman who was part of a group of men and women enjoying breakfast together and assembling for the Veteran's Day Parade in Manassas VA.

American Legion Post 10 of Manassas conceived, planned and managed the Inaugural Veteran's Day Parade in Manassas, VA.  The parade had 91 Grand Marshals.  Why 91?  It was decided that the parade would honor as many Prince William County World War II veterans as possible and 91 was the number who responded  to the call.

My husband and business partner, Arthur, was one of the 91 since he is a WWII veteran, having served in the South Pacific and China as a US Marine.

As you can see they were aboard a huge flatbed trailer decorated and equipped as a float, leading the parade through Old Town Manassas.  I can attest to the fact they received enthusiastic applause and comments as they rode along.  They stopped across from the reviewing stand as the hour long parade passed in review.

Vet's Float

Arthur is standing in the center of the float below without a hat

Arthur, Doug and Grace

Vets honoring the flag

Although Arthur is many years my senior he is both physically and mentally alert, but more importantly, like every other man and woman on that float he

  • Shouted "Thank you for your service" or "God Bless You" and similar phrases to any active duty military personnel standing along the parade route
  • Paid honor to the American flag with a salute (appropriate for veterans) or hand over their heart each time it passed them

We honor all veterans on this day, but it is easy to understand why the name "Greatest Generation" has been reserved for this unique group. Frankly, they might just be able to fool you and win another war.  At the very least I know they would be more than ready to give it a try if it was necessary.

"We can't all be heroes. Someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by." - Will Rogers

The good people of Manassas played their part enthusiastically as the WWII vets passed by.

COMMUTING

  • Express bus service to the PENTAGON and WASHINGTON, DC is available within Lake Ridge and at the entrance to Lake Ridge in the VDOT Commuter Lot
  • Carpools usually meet at the VDOT Commuter Lot at the entrance to Lake Ridge - see OMNIMATCH for more specific details
  • Slugging (some erroneously call it hitching a ride which it is) is a result of the need to use HOV lanes on the I-95 as much as possible. Commuters form a line at a designated SLUG STOP in Lake Ridge - the VDOT Commuter at the Lake Ridge entrance. For example, a driver will pull up headed for the Pentagon, but needs one more passenger to qualify for HOV-3. The first person in line going to the Pentagon will join the others in the car and away they go. It's free commuting for the slugger and gives the driver availability to HOV lanes on I-95 - win win!!
  • Train The Virginia Railway Express WOODBRIDGE STATION with rail service to Springfield, Crystal City and Union Station in Washington, DC is approximately a 20 minute drive from Lake Ridge in the morning rush hour. At Springfield you can switch to METRORAIL that gives you access to the entire National Capital Area subway system.
  • Local buses run regulary throughout the Greater Woodbridge area as well as other areas of Prince William County. Lake Ridge is one of the communities served by OMNLINK

Showing and selling homes in Orange Hunt Estates for the past 3 decades has been a very gratifying experence for my husband and myself. The homes have continued to be popular since they were first introduced in 1967. It is due in no small part to their superior commuting (bus service to the Pentagon operates in Orange Hunt) and shopping location, outstanding schools and proximity to a multitude of recreational facilities.
