prince william county about: Lake Ridge, Woodbridge VA - It's The Ease of Commuting That Sells It - 01/13/10 05:45 PM

Ease of commuting is one of the primary considerations for most people when buying a home. Lake Ridge provides commuting options that are among the best in Northern Virginia.
EXPRESS BUS SERVICE to the PENTAGON and WASHINGTON, DC is available within Lake Ridge and at the entrance to Lake Ridge in the VDOT Commuter Lot
CARPOOLS usually meet at the VDOT Commuter Lot at the entrance to Lake Ridge - see OMNIMATCH for more specific details
SLUGGING (some erroneously call it hitching a ride which it is) is a result of the need to use HOV lanes on … (0 comments)

prince william county about: Commuting By Bus - An Excellent Prince William County Commuting Option - 12/02/09 02:33 PM

aka Commuting Bumper Car Syndrome.
When the alarm clock gives the "Get outa' bed signal" folks in Northern Virginia perform two critical acts.
Grab a cup of coffee and Turn on the TV or radio to hear the traffic reports. It is an unusual morning when there isn't a fender bender somewhere along the I-95 corridor that may slow traffic and increase commuting time Correction - This is the morning ritual of those who drive to the Pentagon, Washington, DC or other National Capital Area work centers. On the other hand, people who ride to work on Potomac and Rappahannock … (0 comments)

prince william county about: Your Military Resource Beyond Dot Mil Sites - 10/10/09 04:07 PM

I am well aware active duty military personnel with orders to one of the Northern Virginia military installations visit the "dot mil" sites long before they arrive in the area. They are very familiar with what services are available and where they are located at the various instsllations.
What is not provided by the DOD sites is an online directory of life beyond the guard post. Over the past 33 years as real estate brokers my husband and I have served hundreds of transferees (military and civilian) who relocated to Northern Virginia. That experience has enabled us to develop … (0 comments)

prince william county about: I Prefer Family Hardware Stores - 10/10/09 03:47 PM

One of my favorite places to shop is small local hardware stores. They have a "flavor" that the Lowe's and Home Depot stores do not and never will. The J.E.Rice Hardware Store is located in the Manassas Shopping Center on Mathis Avenue.
Their saying is, "If we don't have it you don't need it or they don't make it."
J.E.Rice, Sr. opened the store in 1936 at another location and opened this store in1957. The founder's three grandchildren still operate the store which stocks in excess of 35,000 items. One of the reasons for the store's continued success is the … (1 comments)

prince william county about: Does Lake Ridge Have Its' Own Bookworm Haven - 07/25/09 04:51 PM

The library first opened in the lower level of Tacketts Mill in 1985. Those of us who are now and were residents then remember well the Lake Ridge mural that was painted by a local artist.
However, there was a fire in 1986 that damaged the mural and also forced the closure of the library for one month. It moved to an upper level location temporarily and in 1987 returned to its' original location.
However, it was again moved in 1995 to its' present location in the Fairfield Office Park. Phew - that poor thing has had trouble setting … (0 comments)

DALE CITY FARMER’S MARKETVDOT Parking Lot Dale Boulevard and Minnieville Road Sunday, 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM April to mid-November
Although the farmer's market has been open for more than a month it has just recently become well stocked with vegetables. For the first few weeks the majority of the merchandise was flowers. Due to its' central location it really is a bustling place.  Although we live in Lake Ridge we can get to it within 15 minutes on our way to church.

prince william county about: Lake Ridge Has A Home For You And Your Business - 06/06/09 08:00 AM

There are many small businesses where the owner wants the convenience of a self storage facility close to their home even though they may not work from home. If so, Lake Ridge has two very large self storage facilities in the subdivision.
Our son, for example, owns his own business and rents the equivalent of a one car garage to store his equipment. One of his neighbors is a pest control firm that has a similar need. The adavntage is that their "warehouse" is close to home, but does not spoil the appearance of the community since they are … (2 comments)

The 15,000 acres of this national park is truly a forest and it also has

prince william county about: It's A "Members Only" Benefit in Lake Ridge - 05/16/09 10:32 AM
As 26 year residents there is very little my wife and I do not know about Lake Ridge. We've raised our family here, been active in community service and, as real estate brokers, have sold many homes to and for people.
One of the most interesting features about Lake Ridge is that it is made up of rolling hills and was heavily treed prior to its' development. Today, with more than 7,500 homes it is still heavily treed in both the 1,200 acres of common area and at the home sites.
It is what my wife and real estate partner for 33 years love … (0 comments)

prince william county about: Where "Little Lake Ridgers" Go To Get Away From The Daily Grind - 05/14/09 07:02 PM

Karen and I moved to Lake Ridge in 1982 and immediately became involved in the community.  When we heard about the project to build the Fantasy Playground on Cotton Mill Drive we added it to our list of activities that would give us an opportunity to serve our chosen community.
We were already involved with Toastmasters, Boy Scouts and Rotary International, but decided this would provide a permanent facility that would serve "Little Lake Ridgers" for many years to come and we wanted to be part of the action.  It took 1,400 volunteers  over 4 days to complete the project.  Of … (0 comments)

There are 5,233 Elm Streets in the U.S. and not one of them is in Lake Ridge.  We have over 7,500 residences, approximately 38,000 residents and NO MAYOR
However, Lake Ridge has eveything you would expect to find in a typical American small town with a mayor.
Elementary schools, middle school and senior high school Three shopping centers Public transportation to the Pentagon, Washington, DC and all National Capital Area work centers Churches of many denominations Fire and rescue service in the community US Post Office annex Restaurants to please every taste, every age group and every pocketbook More miles of shoreline … (2 comments)

prince william county about: Lake Ridge VA Has Activities For Every Age And Interest Level - 05/06/09 01:43 PM

Readily available recreational opportunities is one of many reasons Lake Ridge is among the most popular communities in Northern Virginia (aside from its' ease of commuting to Northern Virginia military bases, Washington, DC and all National Capital Area business centers)
The Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association sponsors numerous events throughout the year to provide recreational activities for residents of all ages and interest. Each month the association's newsletter "Lake Ridge Today" highlights the events planned for the month - yes, the newsletter arrives prior to the beginning of the month or view the community calendar at Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation. … (4 comments)

When you buy a home one of the requirements laid down by the lender is that you maintain a fire and hazard policy to insure the amount of your indebtedness.
The rate an insurance company charges is based on many factors, but two of the most important factors relate to the distance of your home from the

The Occoquan Watershed is one of many vital components of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.  Over the years many government and civic organizations have  worked tirelessly to insure that this resource is an asset and not a liability to our health and prosperity.
One of the newest groups to join the effort is the Occoquan River Communities (ORC).
