The library first opened in the lower level of Tacketts Mill in 1985. Those of us who are now and were residents then remember well the Lake Ridge mural that was painted by a local artist. However, there was a fire in 1986 that damaged the mural and also forced the closure of the library for one month. There are many small businesses where the owner wants the convenience of a self storage facility close to their home even though they may not work from home.
