The West Springfield Rotary Club supports many local, national and international projects that are not instantly obvious to the public. One exception is its' participation in VDOT's Adopt-A-Highway program.
Every two months club members get out early on a Saturday morning and pick up trash along their assigned stretch of road - Rolling Road between Old Keene Mill Road and the Fairfax County Parkway.

Each year the Fairfax County Park Authority stocks two parks with trout - Lake Fairfax Park and Lake Accotink Park in Springfield.
A 55 acre lake is an important and well used feature of the 493 acre park at Lake Accotink.
The first 1,000 pounds of trout were placed in the stream (it will be restocked weekly) for the February 6 season opening which will continue through April 19,2009.

The slugging system is very simple. If a car needs additional passengers to meet the Virginia (HOV) regulations the driver pulls up to one of the known slug lines. Usually the driver positions the car so that the slugs are on the passenger side.
