Yes Virginia, there IS a pumpkin under that snow... - 10/30/11 12:57 PM

Happy Halloween!

"Yes, Virginia, there is a pumpkin under that snow!"
While many in our neighborhood are still out of power and are busy cleaning up broken trees and fixing their leaky roofs, we are thankful to have been fortunate enough to have escaped our "Snow-tober" surprise unscathed.   I have to admit, it was fun being snow bound on a Saturday evening albeit October.  Hopefully, we will be able to wait through the next holiday (Thanksgiving) without another snowfall-  I'll take a white Christmas, though!

Carmike Cinemas New Multi-Plex in West Pottsgrove Grand Opening Can't be TOO Far Away... - 10/29/11 01:14 PM
The Excitement Builds!

Looks like the Grand Opening of the brand new Carmike Cinema 12 theatre multi-plex in Upland Shopping Center can't be too far away! They just put up the new signs this morning:
There are also signs that they are hiring for all positions. This theater represents such positive growth for the community, not to mention the entertainment factor it brings to this area.  From one movie buff to another- I am extremely excited about the arrival of this new Multi-Plex to the West Pottsgrove community.
You can be sure that I will be posting photos from the Grand Opening!

Attention Trick or Treaters: Don't forget your Snow Boots when heading out this weekend... - 10/29/11 06:56 AM
As I prepare  my caramel apples, carve my pumpkin and make ready for the trick or treaters this weekend- evidently I must also make sure I know where my snow shovel and salt is located as well!  Yesterday, I was at the store and the cashier asked me if I was ready for the snow.  I chuckled and said, "Give it some time!"  She then told me that she was serious and looked at me in astonishment as if I was completely "out of the loop".  So I logged on to the Weather Channel on my phone and low and behold..... Great news for Bicyclists on the Schuyllkill River Trail... - 10/27/11 03:46 PM
Helping to complete one of the many “priority gaps” on the Schuylkill River Trail in Chester County, officials unveiled a 5.6-mile section in Spring City Tuesday that will eventually connect the multi-use trail system with the rest of the region. Before a crowd of nearly 40 people, Chester County representatives hailed the opening of Spring City’s portion of the Schuylkill River Trail as an accomplishment because it will spur economic growth for the borough and begin to finish work on the approximately 130-mile system.John P. Mikowychok, director of Chester County Parks and Recreation, told those in attendance that the completion of Spring … (1 comments)

Preserving the Life of your Jack O Lantern... - 10/21/11 08:20 AM
Halloween Pumpkin Carving was always a tradition around our house.  Spending hours carefully carving those faces.  Each person meticulously personalizing their pumpkin.  Then we would proudly display our crowning achievement on the porch and what would you find a couple days later?  A shriveling rotting mess.  This year I came across this suggestion for preserving your hard work for a little longer...

Here are the simple steps:
Remove dirt: Wipe the exterior surfaces of the pumpkin clean using a damp cloth. Make a bleach solution of1 tablespoon of bleach (typical brand name "Clorox) per quart of water and put it in a spray bottle. … (6 comments)

I'll just bet that you've had some visions of apple dumplings and apple cider dancing in your head these days.  In this area it is apple time and they are abundant all around, in every possible way- baked, boiled, carmelized, I could go on and on..... A trip to a local apple farm is pretty common for many families living in the Berks and Montgomery County areas.  Here is another fun event to round out your Apple theme:
Pottsgrove Manor is holding interactive demonstrations on how the colonial settlers made hard cider, apple butter and other apple recipes. It’s taking place this … (1 comments)

Downtown Pottstown is offering worldwide flair for your dining experience these days...

Recently added to the upscale Mexican eatery Juan Carlos is Bistro 137, a coffee house and restaurant that specializes in a broad range of Mediterranean fare.
The restaurant is owned by Ilknur Basol, a native of southern Turkey who comes from a family focused on food.
Her brother lives in Switzerland and is a professional cake and chocolate baker there and, she said in an email, she hopes to soon bring him (and his delicious cakes) here to Pottstown.

Beautiful Mural beautifies Pottstown's Washington/Chestnut St. Park... - 10/17/11 07:58 PM
Over the past two months, a forest scene has come alive in Pottstown's Washington/Chestnut street park in the form of a mural.
Jeff Margraf, an accomplished local artist living in Phoenixville, was commissioned to design and create the mural for all to enjoy. The artwork depicts the change of seasons set in a natural wooded scene, with flora and fauna scattered throughout.
Several young budding artists had an opportunity to assist Margraf during the recent National Night Out Celebration held on August 2 at this same park. Children of all ages helped fill in tree trunks and the grassy field, bringing … (0 comments)

Communications is key...EVEN when there's nothing to communicate! - 10/07/11 08:28 AM
I operate my business on this belief system:
"Treat people the way you want to be treated"

Purchasing your first home can sometimes rattle your nerves.  Many first time home buyers don't know what to expect or what comes next. You fill out your mortgage paperwork and jump through all the hoops that the mortgage company requests and then silence.  All of a sudden- nothing.  I make a point of touching base with my clients at least two or three times a week- EVEN when there is nothing to tell them.  I call or email and say, " … (5 comments)
