State Rep John Kuempel spoke at the Floresville Chamber of Commerce meeting yesterday about the Texas Congressional Redistricting that is being done at this time.  Every 10 years with the new census reports, the population has shifted so the congressional districts are re drawn.   That is a story in itself.
He had some facts about Texas and the changes in the population.   Guadalupe County which includes Seguin, some of Schertz and Cibolo  had a population growth of 46% from 2000-2010;  Wilson county which includes Floresville, Poth, La Vernia, Adkins, and Stockdale had a population growth of 31.2%.  These areas are where … (0 comments)

I know the district shapes do have a lot to do with swinging voter favor your direction for each party but I often wondered why they were so totally weird.  Couldn't the courts come in and say "Straighten your lines, make it a little more uniform."

The South Texas Trail Ride is here again.  They are traveling to San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.
February 2, 2012 to February 12, 2012   This is the 53rd Annual Trail Ride for the South Texas Trail Ride though South Texas starting at  Edroy and ending at the San Antonio Stock Show.   These riders and wagons are keeping the  cowboy tradition alive.  The Floresville Chamber of Commerce provided breakfast tacos at 6 am this morning at the Wilson County Show Barn to send the riders on their way on one of the last legs of the ride.

Today is the big day.  The reveal for Extreme Home Makeover's final show is today.   The time is uncertain but the crowds are already gathering.   Cindy and I-- The Total Edge Team - have already gotten several phone calls from people wanting to know the location and how to get there.   Once someone gets to Floresville, the directions are easy.  Turn left at the light at Hwy 181 & Hwy 97 at the Bill Miller's and go about 8 miles.  The signs will lead the way.

Well, went out to the site today.  They are moving along.  Unveiling is Saturday, January 21.
 

We in Floresville, TX are having a ball watching this home go up.  The roads are busy with traffic, coming and going.    While the address is Floresville, the location is in the Stockdale, Tx school district so I imagine the Stockdale schools are all abuzz also.

Everyone was so excited to learn that Extreme Home Makeover was planning their last project to air here in Floresville, TX.   THEN,  when I was told who it was to honor I was even more excited.  This soldier was badly wounded in Iraq.  His name is Shilo Harris and he has a wonderful family behind him.  His wife Kathreyn and his children.

The beautiful, wonderful rain has arrived in South Texas and Floresville.
Most of Texas has been in a drought this year and it has been horrible.   While it has been dry in Floresville and all of South Texas, it has affected the entire state.  That and the major fires have taken a toll on the Texas landscape.   Not only did it help the Bastrop wildfires spread, many trees are dying not to mention yards.   It is a pretty bleak picture with dying grass in the yard.

Yesterday, I heard a noise that I had not heard in a long time.
It was a lawnmower hard at work.  Astounding.  It is for us in South Texas as we have been so drought plagued this year we have not had to mow our lawns in weeks.  While that may be a good thing, the looks of the lawns is not.  Most are dying and have become sparse.  So when it rained last week it was a very welcome sight for all of us.
