Sometimes, you just know when something’s going to happen. Sometimes you can pinpoint it right down to the day! Lots of times you can say with certainty that something will happen soon. I had just that today.

I was up on the roof of my inspection this morning and it hit me like a ton of ... shingles! This roof was going to have to be replaced soon. Just like that, I knew it. Didn't take a rocket scientist... I had not even been in the attic or anything yet... I just knew it. Smart? Well... yes but my eyes do not deceive me.

Well, maybe sometimes but not this time! The shingles were pretty fried, not pliable at all.

They were crisp like potato chips! There were some missing tabs and the ridge caps were very thin and cracked in some places.

So when I got into the attic I checked the underside of the sheathing for dampness or water stains from past leakage. Nope, not yet... so let me tie this in to the title of this blog: How do I know this roof will leak?  Let me count the days!
