Home Buyer Tax Credit Count-Down to April 30, 2010:
Lancaster, PA:  Time is running out to take advantage of the First-Time Home Buyers Tax Credit and the Long-Term Home Sellers Tax Credit!  By the end of April, this amazing government program will run out.  Contracts which have been written no later than April 30, 2010 are eligible for the credit - even if the settlement is as late as June 30, 2010.

If you missed the deadline last year to get a First Time Home Buyers' Tax Credit, don't despair!  The tax credit has been extended - and widened.  Not only can first time home buyers get up to $8,000. back - there is also a tax credit for homeowners who have lived in their homes for five consecutive years, or five out the last eight years.

Expanded Home Buyer Tax Credit is About to Become Law!
The Senate has overwhelmingly passed an expanded home buyer tax credit, 98-0.  Yesterday the House passed the new bill as well!
It now goes to the President, who has supported it and is expected to sign it into law.
The new tax credit bill does several things.  First, it will preserve the tax credit for last-minute buyers who are having difficulty getting mortgage approval early enough for settlements before December 1, 2009.
Second, it extends the expiration of the $8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit for contracts on a principal residence … (8 comments)

By now, many first time home buyers are aware of the $8,000 First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit.  A first time home buyer is defined as a buyer who has not had an interest in a primary residence within the past three years.  The tax credit provides a credit of 10% of the purchase price of a home to the buyer, up to a sale price of $80,000; hence, first time home buyers are eligible to receive checks from the IRS in amounts up to $8,000!

Interest rates in Lancaster County PA continue to be quite low by historical standards.  According to the Lancaster County Association of Realtors, a poll of local lenders as of April 27, the latest figures available, averaged 5.04% for fixed 30-year mortgages, and 4.71% for 15-year loans.
