Housing Market

I am finding that when a home sits on the market for a long time, I have had a lot of interest in people renting the property with the option to purchase at a later date. Do you feel that this could help solve some of the problems with the market as it would help the seller possibly pay the mortgage(if any) and maybe get a buyer out of the deal. Please let me know.
