Developers who have land in the Wedge, the 1,900-acres of land that was once in Palm Beach County before a boundary change made it part of Parkland, are now busy either annexing into the city or moving forward with their plans for construction.
At a City Commission meeting, officials approved, on first reading, the master plan for Debuys Property Investment Group's project in the wedge. Parkland will soon to be home to Barkland. The grand opening for the city's first dog park is 12 noon on Jan. 7 at 9245 Ranch Road, next to the Parkland Library.

December 19th, 2011 by Michael Citron Chinese Drywall Settlement Could Cost Chinese Firm 1 Billion Finally, the end looks near for the Chinese Drywall issue that has hit many states, particularly Parkland and South Florida.  Chinese Drywall manufacturer, Knauf and its Chinese affiliate Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin, recently agreed to a settlement that would give cash to help replace the Chinese Drywall in affected homes.

  A small food drive that started in 1992 has since exploded into an annual act of charity bringing together all the county schools.
This year, schools dropping off items at Plantation High School will help feed more than 100 families in the area.
"Our motto is 'Children helping children,'" Renée Herman, founder of Harvest Drive, said. "We're trying to teach the kids a life skill that you need to give back."

The "Rick Case Bikes for Kids" program is accepting donations through Dec. 20. Bikes in good condition can be dropped off at any Rick Case dealership.
Rick and Rita Case launched the program in 1982 and have since donated more than 100,000 bikes in South Florida, Cleveland and Altanta.
All bikes collected are distributed through local Boys & Girls Clubs and other charity organizations.

Broward and Miami-Dade counties rank among the nation’s highest-performing major markets when it comes to home prices over the past quarter and year.
The two counties, counted as one metro area, saw a 2.1 percent increase in prices quarter over quarter and a 5.4 percent jump year over year, according to Clear Capital, a California-based real estate research company.
Broward/Miami-Dade ranked 11th on a list of the top 15 markets. Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville also made the list.
Topping the list were Washington, D.C., and Hartford, Conn.

Real estate firm: $1 million in homebuyer escrow payments missing - 12/12/11 02:01 PM

Delray Beach police confirm they are investigating allegations that a real estate agent made off with about $1 million in escrow deposits from at least 16 prospective homebuyers.
Mizner Grande Realty of Boca Raton said its former agent, Jon Rashotsky, directed a Boca Raton lawyer to disburse the money to “unauthorized parties.”
Ari Albinder, founding broker of Mizner Grande, said he fired Rashotsky on Nov. 9 over another matter, only to learn a few days later that a buyer didn’t have the money to close.
“That’s when the volcano erupted,” Albinder said.

The manatee season in South Florida begins November 15, marking the time when manatees begin moving south toward warm water refuges and seasonal speed limits go into effect. Broward County’s Natural Resources Planning and Management Division cautions boaters to be on the lookout for greater numbers of manatees moving into the County’s waterways and any changes to the boating speed zones.

The inaugural Parkland Dash 5K Run and 2 Mile Fun Run / Walk, that was in October and more successful than expected, has left city officials with a happy problem. The event raised $8,443, with 248 people participating. At a recent workshop, city officials discussed whether to use the money to continue funding Family Central and Area on Aging, the two nonprofit organizations that currently receive city grants, or to spread the money around to other groups.   Parkland city officials will further discuss a proposal to install more entrance signs in the city, including one that will celebrate the achievements of its schools. The city currently has only one.
At a recent workshop, officials considered a proposal to add a sign on University Drive north of the Sawgrass Expressway that would carry multiple messages below the city seal. The signs would primarily highlight the achievements of students studying in Parkland schools. Broward County Records, Taxes and Treasury Division has mailed more than 422,000 property tax bills for 2011. Property taxes must be paid no later than April 2, 2012, to pay without penalty and avoid delinquency. A three percent discount applies to taxes paid in December, followed by a two percent discount in January and one percent in February.
