resources: Florida Vacation Home Rental and Ownership - 06/18/07 05:34 PM
In recent years there has been a surge in the number of people purchasing a second home to be used as a vacation home.  The majority of Florida vacation homes are located near lakes or along coastal areas such as the hundreds of miles along Florida's coastline.  Some people have purchased second homes to be near other family members (especially children or grandchildren).  According to the reports I've read, this is in large part thanks to the baby-boomer generation and low interest rates.  Buying a second home for many people sometimes means taking on a second mortgage and some opt to treat the … (0 comments)

resources: Who do you know named Michael? - 10/11/06 01:42 PM
Whether you're new to the real estate business or a seasoned veteran, it never hurts to jog your memory to come up with a list of people from your past and present to keep in touch with.  At some point in time all of these people can use your services to help them buy or sell property, but they may not know or remember you're in real estate because you haven't kept in touch!  Before starting this list, have a goal in mind of how many people you'd like on it and revise the goal from time to time.  You may … (16 comments)

resources: Free Online Courses - HP Learning Center - 09/21/06 07:52 AM
This one is for any of you who have struggled with technology and software issues. The HP Learning Center offers FREE online courses, some of which are ideal for real estate agents and/or their assistants.  I've taken several of these courses over the years and have found them to be helpful.  Most classes are about 6 weeks long, but they also offer a few that are "quick lessons".  They even allow you to sign up to be notified whenever one of the courses you'd like to take will be offered.  Upon completion of each course they provide you with a certificate in PDF … (18 comments)

An interesting article in today's MarketWatch suggests that companies (in general, not necessarily real estate companies) are having to spend millions of dollars on improving their particular brand's search engine rankings because Wikipedia has become so successful.  Due to the fact that Wikipedia's content is written by individuals (not companies), the content does not always favor the company's image and people are sometimes influenced by what they read in the entries.  From what I could see, there was very little written about the larger real estate companies, though I suspect that will change over time. Here is a selection of Wikipedia entries relating … (15 comments)
