Safety Harbor has many little ponds all around the city. While these waters may look dirty, what you are actually seeing is the mud on the bottom of the pond!! With natural springs feeding the ponds, Safety Harbor was thought to have the original Fountain of Youth!

When you look closer, this is what you find!

The beauty is there, if you take the time to look!!!!! These little lily leave are surrounded by the most beautiful flowers!!! And there are tons of fish in this water too!!!

Safety Harbor water lilies are beautiful! And when I found an entire pond of them, I had to take some photos!

Needless to say, I carry my camera with me everywhere I go. You never know when you are going to come across something as beautiful as this!!!

Crystal Beach Still Has Old Post Office - 05/28/08 08:12 AM
Crystal Beach still has the old Post Office! It it something you don't see that often anymore - one of these old post offices from the 1950's!!! The way the Crystal Beach area is changing it's face, I am sure it won't be long before this building is also replaced with a larger, more modern building!
Crystal Beach is a small town on the Gulf of Mexico and St Joseph's Sound, right next to Palm Harbor! It is a wonderful place to live and play!

Sea Turtle Nesting Season has begun! If you live along the coast, be sure to dim your lights at night. After laying their eggs, the sea turtles are looking for the reflection of the moon on the sea to guide them back to the water. Outside lights can cause them to head in the wrong direction, which spells a slow agonizing death for the turtles!
When we decide to live along the shore we take on a certain amount of responsibility toward the creatures that were there long before man. Respect your environment and dim your lights at night!

Obama Heading To Tampa Bay Area - 05/13/08 11:21 AM
Obama is heading to the Tampa Bay Area next week. Normally I do not comment on the Presidential Race, but considering the fact that we voted in this state and we are NOT being counted, it is time that I write something about it.
Obama wants the Florida delegates. That is understandable. What is NOT understandable is that once again Florida has done something that should not have happened. When we KNEW that the votes would not count, why did we continue on this rocky road to changing the date that we vote in this state? I don't get it...........

Lowry Park Zoo is offering a wonderful day FOR FREE if it is your birthday! You will need to go on your actual birthday and have proof that it is indeed your birthday! If it is your child's birthday, you will still need proof, such as a birth certificate or passport!

Women's Shelter Donations - 05/13/08 10:20 AM
If you have women's clothing or children's clothing, remember to donate to your local women's shelter! They also need cell phones! Even if the phone is not connected to any service, they are still good for making 911 emergency calls!
While you cannot take these items directly to the Women's Shelters (for obvious reasons their locations are not made public) you can call the local number and they will give you an address for a thrift store that works in conjunction with them. You can drop your items off there!

Yesterday I wrote about museums offering free admission this coming Saturday in St Petersburg and there is one extremely important museum that I neglected to mention. It is so important that I thought it needed it's own post! That is the Florida International Museum! It will also allow residents of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties in for free with proper ID.

Hurricane preparedness can also involve boarding your home up! If you are buying or renovating, consider having shutters installed! They will protect your windows during a storm and make your life a lot easier! They are also good to close the place up and protect it if you are gone on vacation!

Hurricane preparedness is a Florida reality! Just as you have earthquakes to deal with in California and tornadoes throughout the middle of our country, we have hurricanes to deal with down here in the Sunshine State!
Personally, I would rather deal with a hurricane ANY DAY!!!!! I know DAYS in advance that it is coming! If I am half-way intelligent, I get out if there is any real danger! Things can be replaced! It is why we have insurance!
