How I Spent Memorial Day - 05/28/08 03:37 PM
Just wanted to share with all of my friends here at ActiveRain how I spent my Memorial Day! I went to the beach with my daughter and granddaughter! We had a wonderful time out on Honeymoon Island! The little one just turned 1 1/2 and is so much fun to be around and observe!!!

We did not spend too much time at the beach - an hour and a half later we were packing her back in the car to head home for lunch and a nap. Too much of a good thing would result in a sunburn! We did … (7 comments)

Crystal Beach Homes - 05/28/08 03:18 PM
Crystal Beach homes are all within a half mile of St Joseph's Sound. That is because Crystal Beach is a tiny little community. One of those places that only locals know about!!! The perfect place to live and play in the Florida sun!!!

Located just minutes from both Tarpon Springs and those fantastic beaches of Caladesi Island and Honeymoon Island State Park, Crystal Beach is a wonderful place to call HOME!

Mature oak trees line the streets together with magestic palms! Many of the side streets are made of crushed sea shells! You don't find communities like this often!

Crystal Beach - One of Pinellas County's Best Kept Secrets - 05/28/08 02:50 PM
Crystal Beach is indeed one of Pinellas County's best kept secrets!!! If you were travelling south along Alternate 19 from Tarpon Springs heading toward Clearwater you would pass right by this lovely little town and never know it is here!

Wedged between Alt 19 and St Joseph's Sound, Crystal Beach is just large enough to have it's own US Post Office and one zip code! Truly a place to hide away and enjoy the Florida sun!!!

Crystal Beach's Changing Face - 05/28/08 02:15 PM
Crystal Beach's changing face is truly remarkable! This once sleepy little town located on St Joseph's Sound is right next door to Palm Harbor. I can remember when all of the homes here were single story cement block or wood frame homes. Those were the days when my family would come up here from Tampa to go fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.

Times sure have changed! More and more magnificently splendid homes are being constructed all over this little town. Crystal Beach is indeed changing it's face!!!

If you are considering buying or selling in the Crystal Beach, … (5 comments)

Honeymoon Island's Sea Grapes - 05/26/08 02:04 PM
Honeymoon Island has Sea Grapes everywhere! Sea Grapes grow here in Florida and throughout the Carribean. They have beautiful flowers that look like this:

The grapes can be made into jam or eatten raw, just like regular grapes. Sea Grapes need a lot of salt to survive. That is way you find them all over the islands here in Florida!!!! They cannot live through frost.

Sea Grapes are found all along the coastline in South Florida. This is one more beautiful 'weed' that we have here!!!

Caladesi Names Best Beach In Nation For 2008 - 05/22/08 06:57 PM
Caladesi Island's beautiful white sands are why "Dr. Beach" Stephen P. Leatherman named it the top beach in the nation for 2008! Leatherman called the three mile long island his 'favorite getaway beach'. With it's crystal clear waters, Caladesi Island - which is located directly off the coast of Dunedin, Florida - is indeed a wonderful place to play in the Florida Sun!!!!
You can get to Caladesi Island via ferry from Honeymoon Island State Park, which is at the end of the Dunedin Causeway!!!
#2 on his list for this year is Hawaii's Hanalei Beach! Florida had two more beaches … (3 comments)

It is interesting to note that our Clearwater office of Charles Rutenberg Realty is the largest in the country! We have over 1790 agents working throughout the state from our office. Many do not come in very often - they … (2 comments)

You Are What You Eat - 05/16/08 07:28 AM
You are what you eat indeed! I was reading the paper a couple of days ago and there was an article about how we as a nation are getting heavier and heavier. There was also a correlation on income and weight. Poor people tend to eat cheap food which is usually junk food the article was saying.
Add to this that cheap food usually is full of chemicals that are NOT natural and food color to make it look appealing and you are on the road to disaster. Not only weight gain, but allergies, attention disorders - a whole array of … (8 comments)

Tarpon Springs To Get Reverse Osmosis Plant - 05/14/08 12:22 PM
Water shortages are nothing new in Florida - during the summer months you can expect the local water management district to issue lawn watering restrictions. Many have finally started making the sensible switch to native plants that are drought tolerant.
There has been talk to desalinization plants for years - now the City of Tarpon Springs is moving in the direction of getting a reverse osmosis plant of their own!!! The process is underway to select a designer for this plant which will hopefully provide 5 million gallons per day of drinking water!
Tarpon Springs - on the cutting edge.

Beautiful Bougainvilleas - 05/13/08 09:13 PM
What could be more beautiful and show that Spring is giving way to Summer than the bougainvillea?

These bougainvilleas grace the park in downtown Dunedin! It is a lovely, tranquil place to sit and enjoy the afternoon - which is exactly what I did!

And since I could not decide which shot I prefer, I decided to share all three with my fellow Rainers!

Spring In Florida - 05/13/08 09:04 PM
Anyone who says we don't have seasons here in Florida has not been here! It is not that things die back and then come to life again. In Florida we tell the season by what is currently in bloom! What a wonderful way to tell the seasons!!!

With such brilliant colors, you can tell that we are about to enter into the summer season! It is a wonderful time of the year to be outside, enjoying the sun and the Gulf breezes!

I am not sure of what the proper name of this flowering plant is and would love … (5 comments)

Right now  the market is flooded with homes and many are taking 6 months and longer to sell. Remember to adjust your listing price to the current market! Do an updated CMA and present it to your client. If your home is not priced right it will continue to sit.
While you are at it, update your listing photos too! Even here in Florida, as the seasons change so do the flowering plants! So make sure your photos are current!!!!

Returning Grandma's 'Borrowed' Library Books - 05/05/08 01:25 PM
Where to start? Many years ago when my mother passed on, I was left with the job of sorting through all of her remaining belongings, which included TONS on books! I love books and have always dreamed of owning my own library, so it was a job that I actually did not mind.
As I sorted through the books and decided which to keep and which to pass on to someone else, I noticed that a few had a stamp in them from the New York City Public Library!!!! What to do????? Keep them??? Pay late fines????
To make it even more interesting, … (4 comments)

THE REAL REASON WE CELEBRATE CINCO DE MAYO (JOKE) - 05/05/08 01:11 PM
I received this today from my broker and thought it was cute enough to share with the rest of you:

Good morning Barbara,
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after it's stop in New York.
This would have been the largest single shipment of Mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know the great ship did not make it to … (2 comments)

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!! - 05/05/08 07:24 AM
Happy Cinco de Mayo to my partner, Bill! Bill's grandmother was from Mexico, so he has reason to celebrate. With a last name of BERRING, which is Danish, you would never look at him and realize he is one quarter Mexican. So on this special day, I want to honor Bill's Grandmother and wish him and his family and all others out there with Mexican roots a wonderful Cinco de Mayo!!!!

Please Say A Prayer . . . . - 05/05/08 07:19 AM
I don't normally write posts like this, but today is an exception! Most of you know that I used to teach social science in drop out prevention, both middle and high school, here in Pinellas County. These are kids that have been reassigned to special schools because of drugs, weapons, violence. It is a second chance school and the class numbers are smaller because the kids need special attention.
One of the most difficult things working there was to hear that we had lost a kid to violence.....some shot themselves, some were shot by the police, some were shot by others (usually … (3 comments)

Flyers Everywhere! - 05/01/08 01:29 PM
Today I put 100 flyers out! I went through a whole townhome/condo community and left them on each door. Naturally I chose a community that is NOT deed restricted with signs everywhere that say it is illegal to solicit. I have no idea who is renting or who owns these homes, but whether they are interested in buying or selling, we are here for them!!!
It was a lazy day so I decided to make good use of it! I will let you know if the phone rings from this attempt to get clients. If nothing else, I got some exercise … (13 comments)
