Water Lilies In Safety Harbor Florida - 09/30/10 03:26 PM

Water lilies are another beautiful plant. Safety Harbor has many ponds that have these lovely plants in them! When I see a water lily it reminds me of being at Piestany in the Slovak Republic. This world famous spa town has some of the most beautiful water lilies I have ever seen.

But you don't have to travel around the world to see them, there are a wide variety right here in sub-tropical Safety Harbor Florida! Where the sun always shines and it NEVER snows!!!

Hibiscus Flowers Are Always Beautiful - 09/30/10 03:18 PM
Hibiscus flowers are indeed always beautiful and I wanted to share a couple that I planted. The Hibiscus is just one of the many beautiful flowering plants you will find down here in the Sunshine State!

When I look at a Hibiscus I think of two places: Florida and Hawaii. I think this native is probably one of the most popular plants that grow down here.

The Hibiscus comes in so many different colors! It is indeed a beauty!

Tarpon Springs Florida Has Great Restaurants & Food - 09/30/10 11:52 AM
Tarpon Springs Florida does indeed have great restaurants and food! Yesterday I drove up there and had lunch with a client in Mykonos Restaurant, right on the Sponge Docks! The food is always fantastic there!

Mykonos is my favorite Tarpon Springs restaurant and I had the chicken souvlaki, which is one of my favorite things to have there!!!!

Absolutely mouth-watering! Plenty of tzatziki and yummy pita bread! Oh how I love Greek cooking!! Tarpon Springs Florida is one place you really need to put on your list!

A German Fraulein For Halloween - 09/28/10 07:35 PM
Going through some photos I came across this photo of my daughter taken ten years ago, while she was still in college. It was Halloween and she wore one of the dirndls that I brought back with me from Germany. Yes, I actually wore these when I lived over there. I had about a dozen of these dresses and absolutely loved them!

So Corinna dressed up as what she really is: a German-American fraulein!!! It is that time of year again and all the stores are starting to stock costumes but none as unique as this!

Orchids Are Beautiful And In DC They Grow At The Botanical Garden - 09/27/10 02:23 PM
Orchids are one of my very favorite plants. When I was growing up my mother had hundreds of beautiful orchid plants growing on our lanai. It was a sight to behold!
While I do have a couple of orchids of my own, I will never have the collection my mother had. But when I have the chance to see a beautiful collection, I do not pass it up! This photo was taken at the Botanical Garden in DC the last time I was up there visiting my son, Sascha.

I will be back in DC next month and will be … (6 comments)

Florida's Unusual Pitcher Plant - 09/27/10 02:14 PM
Florida has a lot of really unusual plants and the pitcher plant is without a doubt one of my favorites! It looks like it belongs in the Amazon Rain Forest - well, it grows in the subtropical Everglades and other subtropical areas of the Sunshine State - that is about as Rain Forest-y as it gets around here.
This cool looking plant needs to always have liquid in the pitchers. If it is in an area where the rain cannot provide the water then a human needs to do it.
This beautiful plant eats insects! The unsuspecting insect crawls into the … (3 comments)

Honeymoon Island State Park - Just Another Sunday In the Sun - 09/27/10 01:57 PM
Honeymoon Island State Park is reachable via the Dunedin Causeway. Once you get out there you can enjoy a fantastic day in the sun and take a dip in the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico. If you manage to get there early enough, as I always do, you can take a walk along the shore toward the tip of the island and collect some of the most beautiful sea shells! Just make sure that there are no residents inside. If there are, be kind enough to return the shell to the water.

"It Might Be OK" - 09/26/10 12:37 PM

Jay's informative posts have been providing me with additional education. There is so much that a good home inspector knows and looks for when doing the home inspection.
Once again he has provided a tip or two that I wanted to share with my clients and colleagues!

Via Jay Markanich (Jay Markanich Real Estate Inspections, LLC):
One of the shady zones of doing home inspections is marginality.  Things that "might" be okay, or "might" not.  Things that are to a local code, but not "best practice" or conforming to the latest building techniques.  Codes, not surprisingly, sometimes lack behind.  Things … (4 comments)

Short Sales Take TIME - Don't Get In The Water If You Don't Want To Swim!!! - 09/23/10 02:41 PM
Short sales take time - LOTS OF TIME - so don't get into the water if you don't want to swim!!! You are going to have to swim for a L-O-N-G time and you will have to be patient! You are going to have to rely on your Realtor and have open lines of communication with your Realtor. When your Realtor sends you a paper to sign, it is IMPERATIVE that you read it, sign it and get it back to your Realtor within a 24 hour period.

Crystal Beach Residents Love German Cars! :-) - 09/23/10 02:08 PM

They say a picture is worth a thousand words - well then this says it all! I was at the post office this morning to pick up my daily mail and send out some golf wedges for Ron's business. As I left the post office I had to smile - three cars were parked there - a BMW and two VWs - what can I say, German cars are obviously popular with Crystal Beach residents! German cars are also known for being wonderful automobiles, thanks to German engineering!!!

Dunedin Causeway For Fishing, Bathing, Lunch & The Gateway To Honeymoon Island State Park - 09/22/10 03:21 PM
Dunedin Causeway is a great place to go fishing! You can put your boat in on the causeway or you can fish either from one of the bridges or wade fish. There is always something biting and the water is a pleasant temperature (in the mid-80's) for swimming and wade fishing.

It is also a great place to take the little ones and let them splash and enjoy the afternoon as my little granddaughter did!

And if you get hungry and did not remember to pack a picnic basket you will find that you can get great sandwiches right … (4 comments)

Another Step Toward The Closing Table - 09/22/10 02:45 PM
Well, today we came another step closer to the closing table. My buyer informed me that his homeowner's insurance company wanted to send out their own roof inspector to check out the new home's barrel tile roof before they insured the place. We had an inspection done but they wanted another inspection - so today I met their inspector and he took some photos of the roof and under the roof from the attic space in the garage.
The entire 'inspection' took him about 20 minutes and he was gone again. I have to wonder why the original inspection was not … (3 comments)

Why is water running out of my electrical panel? - 09/20/10 05:08 PM

I love to reblog inspector posts about some of the things they find during a good home inspection. No matter how much you think you know, nothing can replace having a home inspection done before you purchase!

Herbert remarried a few years after I returned to the States with our two children. He and his wife had two sons which means that my son and daughter have two half brothers. My Personal Fall Season Of Change - 09/20/10 04:17 PM
Like so many other people today, I have fallen into a few bad habits. These habits have led to decreased physical fitness and increased inches that are NOT needed! When I saw that Sally was running a contest for change, I could not resist.
My desire for change actually started almost a month ago, when I decided that I was going to drop 15 pounds before my next birthday (which is October 15th). Well, I am over half way there already and am enjoying watching the pounds melt and the inches go with them! I figured if I didn't get it done … (8 comments)

Charles Rutenberg Realty Foreclosure Class - 09/15/10 03:04 PM
Charles Rutenberg Realty had a foreclosure class at East Lake Woodlands Clubhouse for CRR agents this morning. This is typical CRR training, always attempting to keep us on the cutting edge of what is going on in the real estate market!

Our 'in-house' attorney, Michael Heath, was there as was Hank Sorensen who has a law office in Tampa. While Hank Sorensen covered escrow deposits, Michael Heath went over the steps in the foreclosure process and referenced Florida law.
A breakfast buffet was also provided for the agents, which is something that is typical Charles Rutenberg Realty. I am really … (0 comments)

So Many Ways Others Influence What We Do......... - 09/14/10 02:02 PM
There are indeed so many ways that others influence what we do and the decisions we make. After reading Jason Crouch's posts about the fantastic job he is doing in staying on his diet and improving his health, as well as Pat Kennedy's Weight Watchers diet I decided to do what the nuns in school used to say we should do: Be a banana, stick with the bunch!
The fact that my daughter Corinna has started rollerblading and dropping serious pounds was also a LARGE influence! She looks fantastic and I know she is healthier too because of working out like … (6 comments)

We actually had lunch at the Angry Pirate's Restaurant & Lounge. The food is fantastic! This was my first time eatting there since I usually eat at Flanagan's Irish Pub, but they were closed for some reason today.

Charles Rutenberg Realty is now on the radio at 1340 AM. The program is on the air every Thursday from 12 noon to 1pm and the topic ALWAYS deals with real estate! Today we pre-taped the show and the topic was Social Media!

Katrina Madewell, our broker John Rurkowski and I discussed Social Media 101. Everything was discussed for the agent that does NOT use social media (or does not use it enough). Realtor Wheels - What Do You Drive????? - 09/07/10 01:31 PM
Several years ago I had a client inform me that I don't have a "Realtor" car! It seems that to this good old boy retired judge from Louisiana a "Realtor" car should be something extremely expensive to show off the fact that the Realtor is doing well.

I wonder what he would think about driving around with a Realtor and his wife in this little car? It surely meets the expensive requirement but I think it would be even more cramped than my little VW Jetta that gets fantastic (36 miles to a gallon) mileage.
