safety harbor fl localism: Safety Harbor Florida's Funky Art - 02/17/12 06:31 AM
Safety Harbor Florida's Funky Art is indeed something worth sharing. While I was in Safety Harbor yesterday for lunch, my girlfriend Natalie and I took a drive through a particular neighborhood that we both know and love. Natalie is an art teacher and I am a former potter, so we both enjoy funky art. These homes have evolved during the years and the homeowners have been adding more and more unusual pieces of funky art to decorate their homes, garages and yards. The really wonderful thing is that more and more homes in this neighborhood are constantly getting involved

safety harbor fl localism: Marshall Street Park - Safety Harbor Florida - Great Party Destination - 11/28/11 08:56 AM
Oma's Little Princess turned 5 this past week and the 'official' party was held at Marshall Street Park in Safety Harbor Florida. Safety Harbor Florida has so many wonderful parks and Marshall Street Park offered everything that was needed for a great afternoon. Besides Spider Girl turning five, it was great to see my nephew, Joseph Roberts, who is in pre-med at the University of Florida up in Gainesville. I don't get to see him nearly enough and was amazed at how TALL he has gotten! If you are looking for the perfect place to have a party,

safety harbor fl localism: Philippi Park - Safety Harbor Florida - 09/13/11 07:57 PM
One of my favorite parks in our area is Philippi Park in Safety Harbor Florida. Located directly on the shores of Tampa Bay, Philippi Park has so much to offer! Whether you are there to explore the temple mound of the Tocobaga Tribe that lived there before the white man came to the Tampa Bay Area or simply want to enjoy a long hike in the picturesque park that overlooks the bay, Philippi Park is a great destination for the entire family. There is a great playground for the little ones and picnic shelters that can be reserved for parties.

safety harbor fl localism: Safety Harbor Florida - More Unique Photos - 05/02/11 04:39 PM
Safety Harbor is such a unique and funky little town located directly on Tampa Bay. It is always difficult to take only one or two photographs! While I was there today I took several shots of individual homes and one more than uniquely individual garage! And while the AR photo blogger contest only allowed a single photo, it was impossible NOT to want to share some more of these photos with everyone! You have to attempt to imagine all of these homes in a row on one really funky street! There are many artsy homes and shops in

safety harbor fl localism: Water Lilies In Safety Harbor Florida - 09/30/10 03:26 PM
Water lilies are another beautiful plant. Safety Harbor has many ponds that have these lovely plants in them! When I see a water lily it reminds me of being at Piestany in the Slovak Republic. This world famous spa town has some of the most beautiful water lilies I have ever seen. But you don't have to travel around the world to see them, there are a wide variety right here in sub-tropical Safety Harbor Florida! Where the sun always shines and it NEVER snows!!!

safety harbor fl localism: Safety Harbor's Veterans Memorial Marina Park - 08/11/10 12:21 PM
Safety Harbor Florida has many parks located throughout town but the one directly downtown, next to the Safety Harbor Spa is really a great place for a picnic! You can launch your boat here or go out to fish off of the pier! And nothing can beat a quiet picnic in the park itself! Next to the boat ramp (which goes directly into Tampa Bay) are signs explaining that these waters are frequented by manatees. The signage explains all about going slow through these waters and to watch out for these gentle mammals! There is always a breeze

safety harbor fl localism: Safety Harbor Florida's 500 Year Old Live Oak Tree - 08/10/10 06:05 PM
Yes, you did read correctly, Safety Harbor Florida has a 500 year old live oak tree! I took several photos of it today, talked to it, touched it - no, I am not loosing my marbles, just feeling a special oneness with the planet! This is the most magnificent tree I have ever seen! Safety Harbor has hundreds of old live oak trees but none are as old or as large as this ancient member of our community! This mammoth tree was here long before the white man and will probably still be here when we are gone again

safety harbor fl localism: Florida's Coastal Bird - the Pelican - 03/02/09 03:28 PM
The pelican has always fascinated me - even as a child, when we would go out fishing, these large birds would immediately fly up to the boat and wait for handouts! I remember the first time I saw a pelican take a fish from my father, throw it up in the air and catch it, head first, as it slid down the throat! I was amazed! Things have not changed that much - pelicans are all over the bay and frequent all the fishing spots! They wait for handouts but when that isn't working, they dive in for their meal!

safety harbor fl localism: Why I Love Florida - 02/20/08 08:26 PM
Why I love Florida - let's see, could it be the fact that while the rest of the nation is freezing and paying unbelievable amounts of their hard earned cash to keep warm, I am down here in the sun only needing a jacket during the late hours of the night during this month of February??? Or could it be that even during the 'cold' winter months here in Florida we have beautiful flowers blooming, like these azalea??? Tired of freezing up north? Tired of shoveling snow? Wishing you could enjoy year round sunshine???? Give us a call today!!!!

Safety Harbor is indeed an eclectic community and this quaint little town on Tampa Bay is becoming more and more diversified as adorable shops pop up all over town! One of my personal favorites is the Whistle Stop Grill and Bar. The Whistle Stop Grill and Bar has outside seating on picnic tables under the trees and serve the best milk shakes in town!!! They also have fantastic burgers and if you want a beer to go with it, they offer a fine selection. And, yes, they do indeed offer Fried Green Tomatoes, just like the Whistle Stop in

safety harbor fl localism: Take Care Of Yourself - 01/24/08 12:20 PM
The mornings here in the Bay Area have been foggy and cool - you can tell it is winter in Florida. These bones feel the cold weather and need some TLC after a long day out and about. What to do??? Well, first a trip to one of the local Farmer's Markets! There I can pick up some fantastic local honey! I love honey on my peanut butter sandwich and in my tea!!! And what could be better than local honey from the Farmer's Market? Many local towns have Farmer's Markets. Dunedin has one on Friday mornings, Safety Harbor has one
