st petersburg fl localism: St Petersburg Florida's Hands On Museum For Kids - 04/06/12 02:25 PM
St Petersburg Florida's Hands On Museum at 1925 4th Street North is indeed a museum for kids. I took my granddaughter to the Hands On Museum - also called Great Explorations Children's Museum - yesterday and we both had a fantastic time! This is the perfect place for a five year old to explore! From the harp that has no strings but makes music if you run your hands through the area where the strings should be, to the grocery store provided by Publix, this is a fantastic place for kids to explore. Aubrey really enjoyed putting on

st petersburg fl localism: St Petersburg Florida's Windsurfers - 10/31/11 08:45 AM
St Petersburg Florida was my destination on Sunday and while down there I could not resist taking time to video the windsurfers out by the Skyway Bridge. The Skyway Bridge separates Tampa Bay from the Gulf of Mexico and it is also the connection between St Petersburg, in Pinellas County, and Bradenton, in Manatee County. As you can tell from the videos, it was a windy day, with temperatures only going up to 77 degrees......still a LOT warmer than the snowstorms hitting the Northeast! What are you waiting for? Call today to

Stone Soup Cafe on 16th Street, just north of 38th Avenue N in St Petersburg Florida was my destination for lunch today. I was meeting with a dear friend, Natalie. We go back many years, from the days when I was teaching here in the Pinellas County School System. Natalie is a high school art instructor and this is her LAST day off before the new school year begins for the school board employees. It was great getting together and the Stone Soup Cafe is a place we both love! We started with the fish spread with crackers and

There is so much to see in the Craftsman House gallery & studios in downtown St Petersburg Florida that I had to write another blog post about it! The amazing art that is there just has to get out to the general public so people know where to head when in need of an amazing gift or to simply add an item of beauty to the home. Located at 2955 Central Avenue in downtown St Petersburg Florida, I don't know how this treasure has remained an unknown location to me for so many years. Perhaps it is because I live

st petersburg fl localism: Skyway Bridge Connecting St Petersburg To Brandenton/Sarasota - 07/19/10 09:27 AM
The Skyway Bridge connects St Petersburg Florida (which is the southern part of Pinellas County) to Bradenton/Sarasota and is the dividing point between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. </p> The northern part of the causeway leading out to the Skyway Bridge is a favorite place for locals to go swimming, fishing and wind surfing! It is beautiful and since only locals know about it, there is never a large crowd! That is always a plus!

st petersburg fl localism: Florida's Famous Skyway Bridge - 04/01/10 07:33 PM
Florida's famous Skyway Bridge is a favorite place among locals! Everyone flocks there on the weekends to enjoy the causeway leading up to the bridge. There are plenty of places to enjoy windsurfing, wade fishing, swimming, canoeing or just a day at the beach, grilling and enjoying music with friends and family! It is one of those places that tourists don't come to and unless you know where some of the hidden little beaches are among the mangroves, chances are you won't find them. Oh, and having a SUV helps get in and out too!!! For more information about

st petersburg fl localism: Even A Girl Can Catch Fish In The Sunshine State! - 03/26/09 09:10 AM
Yup, even a girl can catch fish down here in the Sunshine State!!! Ron and I were out fishing again last weekend and it was the first time since I was a kid that I caught something we could actually keep and eat!!! When I was a kid I was always out fishing with my father - but I had not held a fishing rod for about 45 years when I met Ron, so he had to teach me all over again how to fish! So you can imagine how proud I was of the two trout that I caught

st petersburg fl localism: Watch Those School Zones! - 03/09/09 09:08 AM
Well, it finally happened - I got a ticket! It was 9:15 in the morning a week ago, I was driving in a part of St Petersburg that I am not familiar with and noticed that I was passing first an elementary school and then right next to it a high school. Then the lights and siren - a police car was pulling me over!!!!! I was going 26 MPH and the regular speed is 35 MPH - there were NO cones out, no flashing school lights - so what gives????? Seems the times to go 15 MPH were still in

st petersburg fl localism: Florida's Snowy Egret - 03/03/09 09:08 AM
Florida's Snowy Egret is a beautiful shore bird that can be seen all over the state. These graceful birds can be found standing in groups asleep near mangroves or wading along the shoreline, looking for fish. This little guy was originally with a group of 5 when I first saw him. They were protected somewhat from the wind by the mangroves nearby. This is just a small example of the beautiful birds that frequent our shores here in the Sunshine State!

st petersburg fl localism: Fishing At Sunshine Skyway Bridge - 03/02/09 01:41 PM
Yesterday Ron and I went out by the Skyway Bridge for an afternoon of fishing. We had a wonderful time but did not catch anything but bait fish. The wind was blowing since we had a cold front on it's way in and the water is probably still a little too cold for fishing off shore. In spite of the fact that we did not catch anything worth mentioning in over 4 hours, it was a lot of fun and good practice on casting a line out for me (the last time I went fishing was with my father as

st petersburg fl localism: Beautiful Downtown St Petersburg - Part I - 03/18/08 02:35 PM
Beautiful downtown St Petersburg! It is such a lovely town! These photos were taken down at the bay front, where we parked the car. St Petersburg has transformed over the last 50 years from a sleepy retirement town to an active center for the arts! It also offers fantastic shopping opportunities! This is what St Petersburg looks like in mid-March, while much of the nation is still deep in snow! You can see the boats tied up along Tampa Bay. It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for taking photos! So that is exactly what I did! I

st petersburg fl localism: Howard Troxler's Editorial on Our Candidates - 01/22/08 06:15 PM
If you don't read the St Petersburg Times, chances are you are not familiar with Howard Troxler's editorials. I love to read them and this morning's editorial was well worth sharing! If this is Tuesday, what do I stand for? By HOWARD TROXLERPublished January 22, 2008 (Note: None of this is true. Not literally, anyway.)
