Saturday Staging Feature:  What If You Can't Afford to Update you Home to Sell?
When a buyer looks at your home for sale, you want them to imagine themselves living in the home.  You want to accentuate the features of your home as best you can.  When funds are limited it's best to get the advice of a professional.
Thank you Shar Sitter, a professional Home Stager in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for sharing your before and after photos.

Friday Flooring Feature: Is it better to paint or do the floors first? - 07/28/12 09:13 PM
Friday Flooring Feature: Is it better to paint or do the floors first?
I thought this was going to be an easy question to answer.  Paint first.  Not so easy.   Debbie Gartner, The Flooring Girl gives us some "issues" to think about.
1) Are you hiring professionals to paint and to replace the flooring?
2) Do you have wallpaper or paneling to remove?
3) Will the change in flooring effect the baseboards?
Debbie suggested prepping the walls for paint FIRST.  Paint the ceiling FIRST.  Then do the flooring.  Finish by painting the walls.  By doing the work in this order, … (3 comments)

What a Difference ONE Year Makes
It's difficult to believe that a year ago, I was in the hospital fighting for my life.  On July 27, 2011, I was very sick.  I was dehydrated, my lips were blue and my pressure was dangerously low.  I insisted all I need was some Sprite and Cheerios and I would be fine.  My husband, Rich wanted to call for an ambulance.  I kept saying no.  It wasn't until I passed out and fell that I said yes.  I was rushed to the emergency room.  I remember arriving and having about 15 people ~ nurses, doctors, … (16 comments)

Would You Join a Leads Group? - 07/21/12 08:03 PM
Would You Join a Leads Group?
I've been part of 2 leads groups in my 8+ years in Real Estate.  One was with a local chamber.  You had to pay to be a member.  It was very structured.  The only bad thing?  I never passed or received a lead!  Why, you might ask?  Good question.  I believe it's because I didn't take the time to build relationships with the other members.
Bottom line?  Whether you are in a leads group or not, it's still all about building relationships. Let's face it. We are in the PEOPLE business!

Melissa Marro, a professional home stager in St. Augustine, Florida talks to us about furniture placement.  Why would a home stager, or a designer for that matter, angle furniture in a room?  Some possible reasons:

Friday Flooring Feature: How well does THIS carpet hold up to stains?
The most common reasons for replacing carpet are odors and stains.  If you can control the stains, your carpet may have a longer life.  Debbie Gartner, The Flooring Girl, recommends Shaw.  They have recently upgraded their stain protection.

Sunday Selling Tips - Wallpaper, yes or no?
When you are selling your home there are some challenges you might have to face.  Perhaps your home is in need of some repair.  Maybe you carpet is worn or dated and needs to be replaced.
One of the biggest challenges is depersonalizing your home.  What do I mean?  Do you have a collection of Disney items?  Do you have photos of your family on the wall going up the stairs?  Is there a cow decorating theme in your kitchen?  All of these things have something in common.  They are YOUR preference … (6 comments)

Sunday Selling Tips: Preparing Your House For Sale
Preparing your house for sale can be a daunting job. If you break down the preparation in to smaller "bite sized" tasks and may create less stress and frustration for yourself.
Valerie Zinger, a Real Estate professional in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, suggested starting with your guest bedroom. For some, this room can become a catch all of items that don't have a proper place otherwise.
What about the closets? Potential buyers will look at every square inch of the house they are considering to purchase.  That includes kitchen cabinets, basement crawl spaces, garages … (6 comments)

Saturday Staging Feature: Update, Lighten & Brighten
Light fixtures are often an item in a house for sale that goes over looked.  Having "dated" light fixtures can create a negative feeling about a possible purchase of a house for sale.  Many buyers want a home that is move-in ready, and that includes the house being current as far as style goes.
Julia Maher, a professional Home Stager in Fairfield, Connecticut, shares the impact of updating, lightening and brightening the dining room of a house for sale.  Simply removing the window treatments and replacing the light fixtures rejuvenates the room.

People Aren't The Only Ones Relaxing on a Holiday

Rich and I have been enjoying a lazy day today.  No appointments, no lunch dates (except with each other), no coffee meetings, and no ringing phone (I hope I didn't jinx anything).
We had a leisurely breakfast of waffles and maple syrup, some leftovers for lunch, a late afternoon snack.  Not sure that we'll have much for supper.  Don't really have any plans beyond that.  All the fireworks have been canceled due to the wildfires and that's OK. We want EVERY one to be safe.
