Crescent City/Del Norte County Market Report for December 2007 - 12/31/07 04:47 PM
Crescent City/Del Norte County Market Report for December 2007 - It still ain't pretty! A total of 14 residential listings closed in December, slightly higher then November's 13 closings, but slow, even by winter's standards. Del Norte County's active listings have fallen to 226, which still gives us a high absorption rate of 16 months and an average Day on Market of 226, however this statistic is scewed by so few sales and one home that was listed over 500 days. What does it all mean? Del Norte County is still firmly entrenched in a buyer's market, but with shrinking inventory, we should see the average (3 comments)
Hooah! 2008 Will Be Great...Why You Ask? - 12/30/07 12:20 AM
Oh Great, You're thinking. Another one of those happy, smiley REALTOR posts painting a great picture of the coming year when the market sucks! You're probably thinking, "Why don't REALTOR's get real," or at least admit the world is falling apart and 2008 is going to be more of the same. Well, cliches can be tiring, but attitude is everything and a choice. The market may not be great, but I know this for sure, there are still buyers who want to buy homes and there are still seller's who need to sell 'em. Therefore, I'm going to give it my concerted effort (19 comments)

Del Norte County: Affordable Housing in California, but don't miss it! - 12/26/07 11:36 PM
Del Norte County has affordable California housing. DON'T WAIT for prices to surge and inventory to shrink if you are in the market for a home. Our current inventory sits at 230 residential listings, down 27% from the high of 314 just a few months ago. The current median price of a residential listing is $297,000, a bargain when you consider C.A.R. reports the November 2007 median price in California overall is $488,640. Is Your Blog Reaching Your Goals? - 12/23/07 05:45 PM
I am about to wrap up my first year on Active Rain. One of our goals as real estate professionals should be to gauge all our marketing platforms on an annual basis and decide if the effort and/or money expended is worth the results. With many forms of advertising and marketing, it is fairly easy to measure success. For example, with print advertising it's pretty easy to measure success by asking people how they found you and if they answer, "In the newspaper," you know it was cost effective. With the Internet, although a great deal of marketing has no cost involved, there is A (10 comments)
Get Out Of Debt in 2008 - 12/19/07 06:47 PM
Is there anyone out there who isn't feeling the financial pinch right now? Not in my sphere of friends, family and associates, but I'm guessing the people who aren't feeling the pinch are quiet about it (they don't want to make the ones like me feel bad. Thank you for that). Anyway...I am feeling the pinch, and I'm trying to be as proactive as possible. Isn't that what we do on New Years, resolve to make a better and brighter future for ourselves? In that vein, I took several hours out of my day today to figure out a budget for the coming year (31 comments)

2000 Miles in 3 Days, What a Trip - 12/19/07 02:26 PM
2000 miles in three days. Why didn't we fly everyone asked. Oh, because we wanted to see part of the United States we have never seen before. So here is what is between the Northern most county in California, and Salt Lake City Utah. Wild Burros can be found on Highway 140 in Nevada.
We left Wednesday night, stayed in Klamath Falls, got up early and made it to Salt Lake City late Thursday night for a Friday morning meeting. The meeting was getting to be a little long in tooth, so I announced that we needed to wrap it (2 comments)
Contractor Finds $125,000 in Floor Boards of Home...Another Reason to Remodel - 12/17/07 05:53 PM
In my continuing series on remodeling, I have extolled the virtues of adding value to your home by making it a more user friendly place for you, the home owner to live, while increasing your homes desirability for resale. Here is another reason you may want to consider a remodel, but only if you are going to tear out the floor or maybe re-sheetrock your walls: Contractor Finds $125,000 in Floor Boards of Home he Recently Remodeled! Apparently, the home owner offered the contractor 10% of the booty of the rare collectible cash and religious memorabilia he found in an 83 year old home he (12 comments)
7 Recommendations for Selling your Home Quicker & For More in the Current Market - 12/17/07 02:31 AM
7 recommendations for selling your home quicker in the current Crescent City/Del Norte County real estate market: Properly price your property - Unfortunately the market has slowed, not just in my market, but all over. Seller's, price your home accordingly or you will have your home listed for a good, long time. Buyers are looking for the deal of the century right now.Set your price to fall in the most advantageous spot in web searches - For instance, if most 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom homes with your same sq. footage are priced in the $245,000-$250,000 range, buyer's will top their web search price (8 comments)
Put Your Foot in Your Mouth Blogging? - 12/10/07 12:29 AM
I know you have all felt the regret of a bad decision. Some are immediate, like looking in the mirror after getting that trendy haircut that looked so good on the girl in the magazine, but makes you look fat and some take awhile for the regret set in, i.e. a bad investment, a misinterpreted sentence to a friend...a statement in a blog post. Anyone who blogs on a regular basis knows what I'm talking about on this one. I have deleted at least two posts that I can think of that I wrote when I was in a very negative state of mind (27 comments)
Thieves Steal $73,000 in Booty Attending Open House - 12/08/07 05:02 PM
Two woman were busted recently stealing more than $73,000 worth of belongings from open houses they attended. One woman would distract the agent, while the other stole the booty, i.e., expensive designer handbags, jewelry, clothing and even an expensive bottle of champagne. Some condo associations are demanding open-house attendees show picture identification, but how many agents are going to add that to their open house to-do list? If you simply must have an open house, and especially if it's an upscale home, have another person with you who can keep an eye on attendees while you assist prospective buyers. A few more suggestions: Make sure home (13 comments)
Home Features That Are Repugnant to Home Buyers - 12/08/07 04:34 PM
I love sharing this stuff with you guys. Here are home features that turn-off (I like repugnant better) Buyers as stated by Realtor Magazine on-line: A house with only one full bathroom - Can we all say duh.A house without air conditioning - I can honestly say this is not a consideration in Crescent City. (I can come close to a 100% guarantee that you will never need it).Electrical systems on a fuse box - When we moved into our last home--a fixer--our fuse box was buzzing and hot to the touch. The electrician who came out to assess the situation told us (11 comments)
Listing Presentation Quiz - 12/08/07 01:29 PM
Here is a link to a listing presentation quiz from Realtor Magazine On-line. I actually found it useful and you might too. If you don't find it useful, it's still fun to see how you score. I got 8 out of 10 and could argue the point on the two that I missed, but that's for another post. Listing Presentation Quiz (13 comments)
How to Have a Happy Networking/Holiday Season - 12/08/07 01:11 PM
Holiday parties can be stressful for people like me and I know there are a lot of us party-phobics out there. We're good one on one or with a few people, but put us in a party atmosphere with a crowd and...well, it isn't pretty. Here are some suggestions I picked up that I would like to share with the other party-phobics out there. Getting there is the hardest part- I'm sure we will all agree that when we push ourselves to new heights, it's usually the anticipation that's the worst part. Stop giving yourself the lame excuses, put your coat on and (0 comments)

Del Norte County Fresh Dungeness Crab...The #1 Reason to move to Crescent City, CA - 12/05/07 05:28 PM
Well...the long awaited number one reason to move to Del Norte County has at long last revealed itself. It came to me as I was cracking and eating God's gift to those of us that live on the coast. We have been the very thankful recipients of crab three times in the last week. I like it best cold in a cocktail, but it's great in soup, crab cakes, and however else you want to prepare these decapod crustaceans. Opening weekend on December 1 provided eager Del Norters and consumers in the Bay Area and L.A. basin with loads of fresh crab (most of (2 comments)
Crescent City/Del Norte County Market Report for November 2007, and it comes as no surprise, it's a BUYER'S MARKET!!! A total of 13 residential listings sold, a 38% decrease over October and a 46% decrease over November 2006. The absorption rate of 19.76 months, is a further indicator that Del Norte County's real estate market is still firmly entrenched in a buyer's market. Buyer's, now is the time to buy. Read this recent post if you need further convincing that walking the fence is not the right thing to do. Here are the monthly statistics for the Crescent City/Del Norte County market: Why move to Del Norte County? No traffic, (8 comments)
Now Is a Great Time To Be a Buyer! Why... - 12/01/07 12:39 PM
If there's one question REALTORS are getting asked more than usual these days, it would be, "Do you think the market is going to continue to decline (or tank as some people put it). The level of anxiety in their face is in direct correlation with which way they want the marekt to go. Buyer's look hopeful that it will continue to fall, and of course, seller's are freaking out that it will. Not to worry, not to worry. If you are selling your house and you are going to be buying again, the percentages are in your favor that you will be purchasing (14 comments)
