being a good neighbor: Video - The Kind of Friend We All Should Be - 11/01/10 02:10 AM
Here is an example of a loyal friend, someone who will stand by you and shoulder your burden no matter what.  We should all be this lucky to have someone who will "flip us over" when we are on our back floundeirng.  Have a great work week and be this kind of friend!

being a good neighbor: Are You For Sale? - 01/11/09 10:15 PM
Do You Know What You Stand For?
How much is your reputation worth?  Is it for sale?  If so, can you put a price on it?  Are you principled enough to keep your integrity for $1000, but would cash it in for ten?
I traveled out of town this weekend and caught up with an acquaintance over a brief meal. I told her how I have a very difficult escrow that has taken a huge amount of energy, caused much grief and frustration and grayed my hair.  The client came to me through a referral from an out of state Remax agent and he … (15 comments)

being a good neighbor: Grumpy People...Stop Spreading Your "Cheer" - 12/21/08 12:47 AM
Grumpy people, stop spreading your "Cheer" -
My kids are starting to assemble at my home for Christmas.  I've grown accustomed to the quiet of one grown child living at home, so having five with their friends can get loud, active, busy, expensive, etc. but I'm really looking forward to it.
My daughter, Liz, flew in late last night and my husband and I were awakened by her coming in at 1:00 in the morning. As so often happens with old people, we couldn't get right back to sleep, making for a long night and not much sleep, which makes me … (49 comments)

being a good neighbor: The Perfect Christmas Gift for your Child's Teacher - 12/17/08 01:20 PM
What is the perfect Christmas gift for your child's teacher?
My husband has been a teacher or principal for the last twenty years and we have lots of cute teacher ornaments and teacher coffee mugs and we gain weight each Christmas from the awesome goodies his students bring him.  We appreciate and love all the gifts.  Our tree looks great with all the ornaments and we can serve coffee or hot chocolate to a plethora of guests in teacher appreciation mugs, which is very cool.
However, the gift that would be most appreciated is free.  It does require a bit of your … (3 comments)

Our Daily Bread Ministries has set up a much needed homeless shelter at the Del Norte County Fairgrounds - With the thermometer dipping into the low 30's this past week, and that trend expecting to continue another 2 weeks, Our Daily Bread Ministries has made the decision to use their Christmas drive donation money to rent the arts and crafts building at the fairgrounds until 12/31/08 to house those in need.
Mike Justice, the director of Our Daily Bread, says they have … (2 comments)

being a good neighbor: Even Though Times Are Tough, You Can Still Be Nice - 12/04/08 12:21 AM

Painful as it may be, a significant emotional event can be the catalyst for choosing a direction that serves us--and those around us -- more effectively. Look for the learning.
Eric Allenbaugh

Times are tough, there's no arguing that.  I've had several clients tell me they've lost 30% or more of their retirement and clients who need to sell their home or face foreclosure.
The economic downturn (recession) is reaching into every family that's for sure and times are very difficult indeed.
Some see this as an opportunity to make lemonade out of lemons so to … (5 comments)

being a good neighbor: What Clients are Looking For - 10/22/08 10:39 PM
Several years ago I started attending Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study at my church. I enjoyed the bonding that took place as we got to know one another over time. One of the most anticipated elements each week was taking prayer requests and praying for one another. I started attending the bible study because I had three 15 year old sons at the time, not to mention 12 and 10 year old daughters. I WAS A LITTLE STRESSED OUT!!! One Tuesday, following bible study, several of us went out to lunch. One of the ladies that I was getting to know rather … (6 comments)

being a good neighbor: Do We Bail Out Subprime Victims? - 02/01/08 01:05 PM
To bail out home owners or not to bail out...that is the question.
You get several different answers to that question depending on who you listen to.
The FBI said it is investigating 14 corporations over possible accounting fraud and insider trading violations in a crackdown on subprime lending.
John McCain says "greedy people"on Wall Street should be punished for Subprime Mortgages.
Then of course who hasn't read one commentary after another on how consumers used their home like an ATM machine pulling out the equity to fund otherwise unaffordable lifestyles?
Take a look at the U.S. National Debt Clock and you may say it's our … (46 comments)

being a good neighbor: Hooah! 2008 Will Be Great...Why You Ask? - 12/30/07 12:20 AM
Oh Great, You're thinking.  Another one of those happy, smiley REALTOR posts painting a great picture of the coming year when the market sucks!
You're probably thinking, "Why don't REALTOR's get real," or at least admit the world is falling apart and 2008 is going to be more of the same.
Well, cliches can be tiring, but attitude is everything and a choice.  The market may not be great, but I know this for sure, there are still buyers who want to buy homes and there are still seller's who need to sell 'em.
Therefore, I'm going to give it my concerted effort … (19 comments)

I posted on the "Send a soldier a Christmas Card Project" to Walter Reed Memorial Hospital about 1 month ago and one of my regular readers sent me a snopes.com snippet letting me know it was a hoax.  I immediately deleted the post, but read on...
That same dear reader sent this to me today:
