my adventures: I Had an Amazing Week! - 11/01/10 01:12 AM
I had an amazing week. Let me preface that with the last two months. I've had one closing and several escrows open and fail over the last two months, something that a lot of agents can empathize with I'm sure. Getting an escrow to close that involves financing is quite the challenge these days. Let me also preface what happened with one other thing, I have to sell houses. I'm not one of those agents who is having fun keeping busy because they are bored with retirement or earning "hairspray" or "shoe" money. My income is an important part of my

my adventures: Mr. & Mrs. James Gatti, Married 10/10/10 - 10/24/10 11:49 PM
I was out of commission for the weekend of 10/8 thru 10/11 as I was in South Shore Lake Tahoe for my sons wedding. I can't tell you how thrilled we are to have Tia Schmidt become Tia Gatti. She is a heck of a catch and my son is one lucky guy. Jim is in the last semester of his Respiratory Therapist Program. They have a very bright future. Their five year old daughter Maddie was the flower girl and although it wasn't the conventional way to do things, we are so happy they made this commitment to each

my adventures: Been busy turning 50 and Married 30 years! - 03/15/10 11:57 PM
I turned 50 on March 7th and celebrated my 30 wedding anniversary. Why the black teeth? I'll get to that in a minute. Now that I've hit 50, I feel I am able to dispense the wisdom of someone who doesn't just think they know everything like my kids have been telling me for years; I actually do know some stuff. All those trite sayings like: don't sweat the small stuff, it will all work out, don't worry about tomorrow, life's too short, are all true. Life is short, maybe not too short, but short just the same. 50 came very fast and

my adventures: Patrick's Point - A Great Place to Spend the Day - 02/21/09 11:39 PM
Point St. George is a wonderful place to spend the day and walk your dog. If you haven't met Jack from a previous post, this is my lab, Jack. He was my Christmas gift to myself this past holiday. He's my first dog ever, and I love him. Take Washington Blvd west, pass Airport Blvd and Pebble Beach Drive, turn left into the first turnout. There is plenty of parking and several paths that lead to the beach. The walk from the parking lot is not very long, maybe 500 ft. or so. It's a great place

my adventures: How My Mom Shaped me to be an Excellent REALTOR - 01/29/09 11:37 PM
This ode to my Mom, Helen, is long overdue and having just celebrated her 80th birthday, I feel there is no time like the present. I took this picture of my mom and dad on their 59th wedding anniversary in August '08. My dad turned 88 in November and as I already mentioned, mom turned 80 this month. My mom still dresses hip and "puts on her face EVERYDAY," (the putting on the face everyday thing is something that didn't carry over to me). She is an awesome example, both my parents are, of what it means to love and support

my adventures: Lake Tolowa State Wildlife Area - Absolutely Breathtaking - 01/19/09 07:24 PM
The Lake Tolowa State Wildlife Area in Crescent City, CA is stunning in it's beauty. The mix of colors, the abundance of wildlife and the nonexistence of anyone else the entire time we were there, made this the perfect place for Jack's (our new puppy)first visit to the ocean. I have lived in Del Norte County almost 20 years and although I've been to the Kellogg Beach area many, many times, I have never been to this location where Lake Tolowa breaches itself into the ocean. Over Christmas vacation, Del Norte County had some major storms and Lake Earl and Lake

my adventures: I'm Being Trained by My Puppy and What I've Learned so Far - 01/09/09 10:42 AM
This is Jack my puppy. He is 8 weeks old and I have owned him for a little over 2 weeks. I have never, in 48 years, owned a dog before. I wish I had taken the plunge into dog ownership earlier, because I'm sure enjoying it now. My husband, Garry and I, are taking dog ownership extremely seriously, like we do most everything. We do not want an annoying, out of control dog. Garry owned dogs when he was growing up, so he has already established himself as pack leader with Jack and they have a wonderful relationship. I can

my adventures: Lookie What I Got For Christmas! - 12/27/08 10:18 PM
Lookie what I got for Christmas! My husband, Garry and I, were walking out of Safeway in Crescent City on December 23rd and there was a woman with a black lab puppy in her arms asking every passerby if they wanted the puppy. She asked me and I looked at that face and said, "Yes." What makes this "Yes" so amazing is I am not a dog person; never have been. I have cats and that's it. I have never even wanted a dog, but something said to me that he was supposed to be my dog and there you have it,

my adventures: Joseph Gatti, United States Military Academy Graduate, Class of 2005 - 12/21/08 03:24 PM
This is my son, Joseph Gatti and this was his proudest and happiest day so far in May of 2005. It was a pretty proud day for my husband, Garry, and I as well. The ordeal of West Point can not be overstated. When Joseph came home for Christmas break his Yuk year (West Point vernacular for sophomore) and we took him to the airport to go back for second semester, he looked like a man headed to the gallows. He graduated with the class of 2005 and was in several TV series that the Discovery and History channel televised showcasing that class.

my adventures: 2nd Bridge and The Smith River - Series: 101 Reasons to Move to Del Norte County - 09/06/08 01:15 AM
Hi Everyone. Here is another entry in my series: 101 reasons to move to Del Norte County. Undoubtably the Smith River is right up at the top of the list. As residents of Del Norte County know, the river has many uses, kayaking, fishing, rafting, and of course jumping off rocks into the water. Today is a balmy 85 degrees and it is Labor Day Weekend. I am about to demonstrate my jumping into the water technique. It's funny how I look 28 years younger in my swimsuit. And there I go. Yippee. The water isn't too cold because it is

my adventures: RE/MAX Coastal Redwoods has Community Spirit - 08/10/08 10:56 AM
RE/MAX Coastal Redwoods has Community Pride - I have been at Re/max Coastal Redwoods now for about 4 months. Since I started there, I have been busy, busy, busy. The owners of my Remax office have a lot of energy and like to get involved in community events. Our county fair was July 31 - August 3 and the theme was, "Are you tough enough to wear pink?" Pink, of course, is the color used by breast cancer survivors to celebrate their achievement in overcoming the disease. The week before decorating for the fair, we decorated in purple for the breast cancer relay

my adventures: Del Norte County, A Close Drive to the Britt Festival in Jacksonville, Oregon - 07/29/08 12:18 AM
The Britt Festival in Jacksonville, Oregon is just a short car ride, 1 1/2 hours, from Crescent City and that's where I was this past weekend. If you live on the North Coast and haven't been to the Britt Festival, it's worth the drive. Go check it out. My husband, Garry, and I purchased tickets to see George Thorogood on the Britt Festival website a month or so ago and anxiously looked forward to the performance. Like so many of my client's, I too have been affected by the downturn in the housing market and the economy. Going to see George

my adventures: Family Keeps me from my Blogging Duties and That's OK - 03/30/08 10:43 AM
I haven't been blogging as much lateley. There are several reasons, but #1 would be my family. My husband, a teacher, had Spring Break the week before Easter, and my four children in college had Spring Break the week after Easter. Here is my granddaughter. She came to visit with her daddy, my son, for the last week. I squeezed in being with Maddie every possible moment and keeping my two short sale escrows alive. It wasn't easy. I do not know how agents with young children do it. Being a real estate agent is not a M-F, 8-5 kind of

my adventures: Interviewed by Local Newspaper Because of AR Blog - 01/11/08 12:00 AM
I would like to share an exciting experience that came my way because of my Active Rain blog. I was contacted by a local newspaper reporter asking me if I would assist her with an article on the forecast for the Del Norte County real estate market for 2008. She found my website, read my blog and determined I would be helpful after reading my monthly market reports, end of the year summary report and 2008 market forecast. I enjoyed the experience, hope to do it again, and wanted to share it with you. Below is the article if you would like to take a gander. Thank

my adventures: Hooah! 2008 Will Be Great...Why You Ask? - 12/30/07 12:20 AM
Oh Great, You're thinking. Another one of those happy, smiley REALTOR posts painting a great picture of the coming year when the market sucks! You're probably thinking, "Why don't REALTOR's get real," or at least admit the world is falling apart and 2008 is going to be more of the same. Well, cliches can be tiring, but attitude is everything and a choice. The market may not be great, but I know this for sure, there are still buyers who want to buy homes and there are still seller's who need to sell 'em. Therefore, I'm going to give it my concerted effort

my adventures: Is Your Blog Reaching Your Goals? - 12/23/07 05:45 PM
I am about to wrap up my first year on Active Rain. One of our goals as real estate professionals should be to gauge all our marketing platforms on an annual basis and decide if the effort and/or money expended is worth the results. With many forms of advertising and marketing, it is fairly easy to measure success. For example, with print advertising it's pretty easy to measure success by asking people how they found you and if they answer, "In the newspaper," you know it was cost effective. With the Internet, although a great deal of marketing has no cost involved, there is A

my adventures: 2000 Miles in 3 Days, What a Trip - 12/19/07 02:26 PM
2000 miles in three days. Why didn't we fly everyone asked. Oh, because we wanted to see part of the United States we have never seen before. So here is what is between the Northern most county in California, and Salt Lake City Utah. Wild Burros can be found on Highway 140 in Nevada. We left Wednesday night, stayed in Klamath Falls, got up early and made it to Salt Lake City late Thursday night for a Friday morning meeting. The meeting was getting to be a little long in tooth, so I announced that we needed to wrap it
