Kindergarten and my first real spankingGrowing up in the 1950’s was full of music in my house. My mom always had the radio on or her Hi Fi  on playing records, you know the 45’s that were popular. We were always dancing to whatever music was playing. My first day of kindergarten was not something terrible. My Mom told me who my teacher was, told me to stand on her line, called me “Karen Ann”, snapped my picture and off I went into the classroom.

It really breaks my heart to know that we didn't know this goes on every Friday, well at least I didn't know. Instead, I guess the media feels it's more important to report on Hollywood stars as heroes. Last night we encountered the most beautiful sky as the evening approached. I stood outside staring and reflecting in wonderment, how only a few hours ago the appearance was so contrasting. Life, as we know it, moves so swiftly by us.
Was Hurricane Irene an awakening for some, a reminder...
Are we embracing life or just living it day by day?

Hurricane Irene Update Sunset Beach, NCThe worst is over for the Sunset Beach, NC area. Miss Irene Hurricane left us a little soggy but without any major damage. The Bridge from the mainland of Sunset Beach to the Island is open to the public.Police Chief Massey reports little to no damage on the island or mainland. Shelters will remain open today for those without power. Sporadic power outages have been reported.Some portions of Highway 17 have some flooding issues but it is not closed. Take extra precaution if traveling Highway 17.

Hurricane Irene Update for Sunset Beach, NCHurricane Warning and Flash Flood Advisory is in effective for our area.A Voluntary Evacuation for the Sunset Beach Island has been ordered beginning immediately.  The Sunset Beach Bridge will be closing at 5:00 pm Friday, August 26, 2011.West Brunswick High School on Highway 130 in Shallotte will serve as a shelter and will open at 2:00 pm, Friday. This shelter will be pet-friendly.The next update from Brunswick County Emergency Services is expected by 4:00 pm on Friday, August 26th.

Sunset Beach, NC  “Where is our BOAT RAMP”Four years have gone by and the town of Sunset Beach, NC is still without a boat ramp. An informal boat launch on the island causeway was closed in June 2008 to make way for the new $44 million high-rise bridge that opened in November, 2010.
At a recent town meeting, Sunset Beach Town Administrator Gary Parker “guesstimates” the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is “poised” to start construction of the planned waterway facility located across the street from Twin Lakes Restaurant later this year. Projected completion will be next summer, 2012.
