Are You Aware of ActiveRain Contests?

There are so many things I wasn't aware of when I began blogging here in 2009. One of those things was ActiveRain contests. I just never clicked on the link at the top of the page to see what it was all about. I would encourage you to do that by the way. Click on the links at the top of the ActiveRain page.

Then when I finally saw a post promoting a contest, I didn't participate. Why? Because I didn't see how that contest would benefit my business. That is until January … (50 comments)

Not All Listings are Worth Having
It seems that being a real estate agent is fraught with adversity. Maybe this is true of any job that deals with large sums of money exchanging hands. Whatever the reason, I have had my fair share of adversity through various real estate transactions. The worst occurred a couple of years ago. I had written a post entitled, Bring Attention to Unique Selling Features in the MLS. As a result of that post, a local homeowner emailed me saying he had a home that might work for these buyers. It had previously been on the … (81 comments)

activerain contests: If a Real Estate Brokerage Can Go Paperless, Then Why Can't I? - 09/28/12 03:18 PM
If a Real Estate Brokerage Can Go Paperless, Then Why Can't I? Anyone who knows me will tell you I am a recycle fanatic. I have made a concerted effort for many years to cut down on the amount of paper that comes into my life. Several years ago, I went to on-line banking and bill paying. The only bills I receive in the mail are my water and electric. They are the only companies in my life that haven't gone entirely paperless yet. I have opted out of credit solicitations to prevent unwanted mail. I have even cancelled subscriptions to … (19 comments)

Don't Use a One-Size-Fits-All Approach to Marketing

It's hard to believe that we are three-quarters through 2012. Some great things are happening in the Franklin TN real estate market. Usually as we enter the fall months, things begin to slow down. That hasn't been the case this year. I suspect that if interest rates continue to remain low, we will have a good selling season for the remainder of 2012 and into 2013. Now is not the time to lose momentum.

I want to make sure I don't waste an opportunity to reach my database or sphere of influence. … (69 comments)

activerain contests: I Can't Win the Gold If I Don't Compete - 08/12/12 02:14 PM
I Can't Win the Gold If I Don't Compete I have never been much of an athlete but I have an extensive background in theater and performing. Many years ago, while preparing for an audition, I read the following quote written by Michael Shurtleff, a famous casting director:
Competition is healthy. Competition is life. Yet most actors refuse to acknowledge this. They don't want to compete. They want to get along. And they are therefore not first-rate actors. This quote really resonated with me. As much as I may not want to admit it, I have to be prepared for … (23 comments)

activerain contests: The Timing Couldn't be Better for the $500 Marketing Challenge - 07/05/12 03:50 PM
The timing couldn't be better for the $500 marketing challenge. I am currently in the process of developing a new Wordpress site and this challenge forced me to investigate the technology I would like to incorporate over the next year. I didn't include the cost of the WP Theme and Framework ($99.95).      IDX Broker - ($39.99) Indexable IDX    searches for new WP site.      BlueHost - ($4.95) Website hosting.      DocuSign - ($14.99) Electronic signatures.      Constant Contact - ($15) CRM tool.      Happy Grasshopper - ($19) CRM tool.      ActiveRain - ($28) Outside blog and Rainmaker account.      Direct … (33 comments)

activerain contests: How to Prove Gas Fireplace Logs are in Good Working Condition - 05/01/12 05:22 PM
How to Prove Gas Fireplace Logs are in Good Working Condition
Several months ago, I had a listing that had a Temco Ventless Fireplace. The fireplace had once been connected to an exterior propane tank. However, the seller had disconnected and removed the tank several years ago.
The buyer wanted to test the fireplace logs during the home inspection but since it was no longer connected to propane, I suggested the home inspector bring a 20-lb propane tank with him to test the fireplace logs. Unfortunately, the inspector discovered that the gas line didn't have a flange to connect to the portable propane … (55 comments)
