Franklin TN Photo of the Day: Horse Country While out taking photos last week, I came across these two beautiful horses. As I got out of my car to snap a photo, they actually walked toward me and the result was the photo below.
I'm sure they thought they were going to get a treat. But, not only did I not have any sugar, I wouldn't give any to the horse without the owner's permission. Franklin TN is gorgeous horse country and you will find lots of these awesome creatures while driving the countryside.

Franklin TN Photo of the Day: Hot Air Ballooning Hot air ballooning is quite popular in Franklin TN. They often land in a field close to my home.
Tonight, when I looked out, they were right in front of my house (I live on five acres in rural Franklin TN).
I always get such a kick out of seeing these balloons so close. It was a beautiful sight to say the least.

Franklin TN Photo of the Day: Franklin Mercantile Deli
I love spending a beautiful Spring day in historic downtown Franklin. There are lots of opportunities for shopping and eating; two of my favorite activities.
Franklin Mercantile Deli, fondly known as "the Merc" by the locals, is a regular stop. It's located on Fourth Avenue just north of Main Street.
Most days, you will find a long line at the lunch hour. It's best to get there early to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The menu consists of specialty sandwiches, soups, salad bar, wonderful desserts, fruit tea, sweet tea and … (13 comments)

The motto of The Peoples Church is Loving God, Loving People.  This motto is derived from the following scripture: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law … (4 comments)

Franklin TN Photo of the Day: Carnton Plantation
On November 30, 1864, during the Battle of Franklin, Carnton Plantation was used as a field hospital for hundreds of wounded and dying Confederate troops.  The Battle of Franklin has become known as one of the bloodiest battles of the entire Civil War.
The Confederate Army of Tennessee assaulted the Federal army in the late hours of the night along the southern edge of Franklin.  The battle only lasted about 5 hours but nearly 10,000 soldiers were either killed, missing or wounded.  Of that number, 7,000 were Confederate soldiers.  They filled Carnton with … (4 comments)

Franklin TN Photo of the Day: Historic Downtown Franklin
Franklin TN was founded in 1799 by Abram Maury, a State Senator.  The town was named after Benjamin Franklin who was a close friend of Dr. Hugh Williamson, a member of the Continental Congress, and whom the county is named after.
Historic Downtown Franklin is centered around the town square located at the corners of 3rd Avenue and Main Street.  Inside the square is a Civil War Monument erected in 1899.
Many of the historic Franklin homes are within a short walking distance of the square.  In addition to the historic … (6 comments)
