What is Fatherhood? - 07/23/09 11:13 AM
I have been thinking a lot about Fatherhood recently.  In just a few days we will have child numbers 3 and 4 when the twin girls get here.  My wife is at 35 weeks now and our doc says be ready at any time.  I searched Wikipedia to see what it had to say and confirmed my suspicion.  Staying involved with our kids is the right way to go.  "children who experience significant father involvement tend to exhibit higher scores on assessments of cognitive development, enhanced social skills and fewer behavior problems" But what to do with our kids aside from all … (3 comments)

How do you get your business? - 07/20/09 03:24 PM
Every so often when speaking with Realtors or other Mortgage folks, the question gets asked to me, "How do you get your business?"  Or a sales person from yellowbook.com or a person soliciting sponsorship from a Chamber of Commerce list, "Where do you spend your advertising dollars?"
My advertising model is fairly simple, fund the programs I am involved with or sponsor a business where I trust the owners.  So when you ask me to sponsor a High School calendar, and I don't have a child at the school yet, you have little chance to get me involved.  Bring up … (5 comments)

A Positive Customer Experience - 07/20/09 03:19 PM
Julie has been working in the yard a fair amount and unfortunately, came across some cracks in our bricks.  Though not huge, we thought better to have a Pro check them out.  A friend from church works for Perma-Pier, a Foundation Repair Company.  Shane came out and did a map of our home and then used that fancy measuring tool at certain parts in the inside of our home.  It did show a small amount of movement and he knew why.  What I learned is that each of my side yards sprinkle zones need to be reduced on the amount of … (1 comments)

Killed in action - 07/20/09 03:06 PM
Boy this was a wild read and great video to watch.  I can honestly say I have never seen anything like this before.  I am sure it happened as I grew up in a pretty small town.
Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor, and no longer honors … (1 comments)

What's the Ideal Day to Close on Your New Home? - 07/20/09 03:03 PM
Do you think that the last day of the month is the best day to close on your home purchase?  It may not be true. Closing on the last day does not allow for any unforeseen circumstances.  What about selling a home in the morning and buying one that afternoon?  Very common but boy is that one a gamble.  Let me illustrate this by relating a true story. A client of mine was closing the sale of their home at one Title Company in the morning. Immediately following that closing they were to go to a second title company to complete the … (0 comments)

Frisco Cycling Club news - 07/17/09 04:19 PM
New board members of the Frisco Cycling Club were introduced at the last club meeting which was held at the Frisco Superdrome. Board members represent a cross section of all different levels of the cycling community in Frisco. It was discussed that FCC members have become aware of more cyclists on the streets of Frisco. Also, membership in the club has increased lately.  We now have more than 100 members in and around the city of Frisco. Some members feel that this might be at least in part due to the new signage throughout the city. There will be more about … (0 comments)

Tankard Fellowship - 07/13/09 12:08 PM
Time to Raise your Tankards Tankard Fellowship is coming up this Tuesday the 14th.  Held at Lochrann's Irish Pub and Eatery with an 8:30pm start time.  Simple goal, spend time with your family then come out and have some manly conversations with other Christian men.   Tankard has no agenda and no rules, maybe some rough guidelines:
Is Tankard Fellowship a bible study?  I do see folks reading but usually it is the drinks menu Do I bring a bible to Tankard?  You can but not the good one you take to church on Sunday's.  Would feel awkward at church if beer was … (0 comments)

When to 'Float' Your Interest Rate - 07/13/09 12:05 PM
As a mortgage broker my responsibility to you begins at our first contact, continues through the process and does not end until the house you have chosen is officially yours. I stay involved throughout the entire proceeding, watching the market and advising you to the very best of my ability.  When you begin working with a lender and go through the pre-qualification for either a refinance or a purchase, you have the ability - once your loan is approved - to lock that interest rate. The question is always when to lock the rate. No one can answer that with total … (0 comments)

What in the world is Pickleball? - 07/06/09 12:47 PM
Pickleball began with the summertime whine of "I'm bored"!
The bored children of two families on Bainbridge Island in Washington State inspired the two fathers (Bill Bell and Joel Pritchard) to invent a game. They first thought they would just play badminton on the asphalt badminton court in Pritchard's backyard to alleviate the boredom. But no one could find the shuttlecocks. The dads substituted a wiffle-type ball but the kids found it too difficult to hit the 3 inch ball with the lightweight badminton rackets. The dads then made wooden rackets that resembled ping pong paddles. Rules for the new 'badminton' … (2 comments)

There are currently 275 children in Collin County waiting to be assigned a big … (0 comments)

Sign the Safe Passing Petition!Dear fellow Texas cyclists,As you know, last week Governor Perry vetoed the Safe Passing Bill (SB 488). This bill would have made Texas roads safer by requiring motorists to give three feet clearance when passing a cyclist or other vulnerable road user. We are deeply disappointed in the Governor's … (1 comments)

PMI vs. Mortgage Insurance: - 07/01/09 11:11 AM
When you are buying a home and putting less than 20% down the lender will require you to carry mortgage insurance. This insurance is sometimes called PMI (private mortgage insurance) or MIP (mortgage insurance premium). Whatever the acronym, it is money that is going to the lender or financial institution instead of to the principal on your loan. Those whose credit scores are 700 or above have the option of taking out a second mortgage. Eighty percent would be borrowed from the first lender; the second mortgage account would depend on the amount of the down payment. Five percent would require … (1 comments)

Wait Till You Read This: - 07/01/09 11:06 AM
Last Friday night I did the unthinkable.  I raced my bicycle!  Not a huge feat to some, but for me- HUGE!  I retired from bicycle racing in 1996 when I took a job with Specialized Bicycles as the Midwest Technical Representative.  Give a Category 1 road racer a car, expense account and 33 States to call on was a big mistake (trust me I have the tattoo to prove it).  On top of the job, they had a bonus program for how under budget you came, as he reads this today- my boss at the time was still amazed at how … (0 comments)
