Simple Truth - 10/30/08 08:36 AM
Simple Truth
It is the simple truth that performance-chasing is a losing strategy. Constantly rotating between what is working today to working tomorrow rarely gets you anywhere. I know it's tempting! We are hypnotized with marketing messages from the industry guru's that over promise and under deliver. They use "trigger points" that drive your need to find the answer. They can talk about your problems. Maybe even use a voice in your industry that creates particular problems and knows how to find the solution. They use words to identify with you, your lifestyle and your business. They've been there, right where … (5 comments)

Assume Nothing - 10/29/08 08:28 PM
Assume Nothing or Re-assume Nothing Can you re-assume nothing?  Forcing you to look at how things are and imaging what they could be. Not waiting for change, but become a mechanism, a method or means of doing something by assuming nothing. Can you re-think effects? The affect you have on clients. The affect you have on buying or selling. The affect you have on style. The affect you have on "green". Can you re-do technology. Weave your stream of information under and through another medium. Can you rebuild your platform with a new structure? Saturn wants us to Rethink Safe. Rethink … (5 comments)

Nocturnal Noise - 10/29/08 07:22 PM
Nocturnal NoiseYou may not see them, but they're there. By day, the occupants of the roost are quiet, hanging upside down as they wait for the sun to disappear into the horizon. But as the dark shadows of dusk arrive, the creatures stir and drop from the rafters, unleashing a clamor of squeaks and squeals that can send chills down your spine. And when one of the creature denizens takes flight, the flap of its wings cuts through the sill of the evening striking fear in the hearts of people everywhere. We are all too familiar with the diurnal noise of … (0 comments)

How Does Your Copy Write? Part II - 10/28/08 10:09 AM
Yesterday we hit the first 4 steps of writing great copy.  Now lets hit the final 3.
Step 5.  Behind Door Number 2
Your message should be weaved in and out of the copy.  Almost hidden.  People just read, but your copy needs to be captivating. Just make sure that you do not get too caught up reading your own copy, that the message you intended to deliver is totally overlooked.

Step 6.  You need to "kill the cat" (sorry kitty lovers)
You need to have your target wonder about something.  Make them curious.  This is one of the most … (0 comments)

How Does Your Copy Write? - 10/27/08 03:05 PM
How Does Your Copy Write?
There are 7 good steps when writing sales copy.
Step 1.  I only have eyes for you!
Make it personal.  Make it feel like it's only written for you audience of one.  Your mailing list or e-list may have hundreds or thousands of contacts, but everyone should feel like you wrote the copy for them.  Write you copy in a very personal way.  Be transparent.  Be yourself.  People like you.  Why I like you!  Now write to me and make me cry.
Set 2.  Make your copy "roll with it baby"
Most people write submissively, like … (0 comments)

Big John Henry had a Hammer - 10/27/08 01:46 PM
You work 12 hours a day leaving little time for your family or friends.  Your relationships suffer, you kids have problems, and you can't seem to find some down time.  You don't like your life, but you cannot afford to stop what you do.  Each day goes by slower but you cannot seem to catch up.
Big John Henry had a hammer.
You feel like you have very little choices.  You live out of obligation and spend your time making the best of a bad situation or just a situation.  You work to maintain your lifestyle.  You are trapped, held hostage … (0 comments)

The Sandwich Generation - 10/26/08 11:30 AM
The Sandwich Generation
No not the family that put together gourmet peanut butter and boysenberry jelly on whole wheat, 9 grain bread.  I am speaking of the growing number of American families that are caring for elderly parents while continuing to raise their own children.
This generation is struggling in the current economic environment.  The parents are trying to maintain their independence and the children are trying to find the answers.
There are an estimated 16 million Americans in this group and the numbers continue to swell with report of growth to 75 million in the next 25 years.

Can you see Her Foundation? - 10/26/08 10:19 AM
It's not Makeup!
Foundation.  It is what you business is built on.  It is the mortar and bricks that should be carrying the weight of the current Real Estate cycle.  It is the vapor barrier that keeps the moisture out and the rot away.
How is your foundation holding up in this storm? Where do you stand to relieve the stress? How do you get recharged?
According to Larry Murr, a columnist for Pro Remodeler, there are four areas in our life that we must constantly balance that are essential to growth:  spiritual, emotional, metal, and physical.
A strong faith can provide … (0 comments)

Back to the Future - 10/26/08 09:37 AM
The Future is Closer Than You Think! If you punch in your GPS you are very specific. 4020 Lakeside Drive, Raleigh, NC. When you go on vacation you tell people, "I'm going to Disney World in Orlando." And if you go even farther you skip the place and just say "We are going to the Europe." It seems that we spend a lot of time describing a future product or promotion. We do not make it real. We generalize the way we describe it, making it farther away for our clients. "We're going to launch a new product or promotion next year" … (0 comments)

Waiting for Prince Charming - 10/25/08 03:32 PM
Waiting for Prince Charming
A recent survey by the Nation Association of Realtors found that single women comprise of 20% of the home buyers.
Numbers don't lie!  What a niche.
Read it again.  One fifth of homebuyers today are single women.  One fifth!  Wow, this diverse group is seeking to establish a homestead, a piece of the American Dream.
These women have college degrees, good jobs, and money.  These women know that real estate is a good investment.  They do not view housing as a commodity or a disposable asset.  They are decision makers and they are not compulsive.  They like research.

Erasers and Crayons - 10/25/08 01:35 PM
Erasers and CrayonsIn this economic time with find ourselves in, growth strategies seem to stall or are rapidly put in idle. Business owners, management, and entrepreneurs are so concerned about today's environment that they cannot see beyond the end of the week. This attitude brings progress in growth to a grinding halt or at the very least emergency braking. Strategies can be taught and business models changed to continue on the path of growth. Business owners, managers, and entrepreneurs need be taught or become open to new ways to approach growth, innovation, and communication. You may work in an environment that … (0 comments)

Hemmingway - 10/24/08 04:43 PM
HemingwayAn epic battle between a man and a giant marlin makes for a great Hemingway tale but, an ego marketing battle between you and yourself makes for a lousy Saturday afternoon of fishing.Marketing.  Marketing should be a continual cast into the sea.  Marketing should never stop.  Marketing is not only a growth tool, but a business sustainable tool.  Marketing should be in your operating budget and in bolded type on your business plan!  Marketing is how you touch your client. Marketing is how your tell a story and good stories sell!!OK, so marketing is where your start but, you need to know what end result your are looking for?  What … (0 comments)

Gluttony - 10/24/08 11:15 AM
GluttonyGluttony - It means excessive, an excessive practice of something. There are quite a few reasons why our current economic climate is looking for a shovel and a nice green field where it can be put to rest. After feeding the globe with promises, we are seeing how distorted views by financial barons' elevated greed to a new level. This greed spilled over to the "average Joe". No, say it ain't so Joe! Joe Buyer wanted more house than they could afford. Joe Seller wanted multiple offers and quick sales. Joe Homeowner wanted the equity to pay off the credit card … (0 comments)

X-Ray Vision or Rose Colored Glasses? - 10/23/08 01:27 PM
X-ray Vision or Rose Colored Glasses?
Content differs between a blog and a newsletter by the transparency of each media.
A newsletter is written to permission or performance based digital or paper audience.  This content is sought after by businesses and individuals that look to implement your wisdom as a stepping stone to the next platform.  This audience will usually plateau and look for the next stepping stone.
The transparency level in a newsletter is not very clear as the writer and the audience are looking in the same direction.
A blog is written and delivered to undifferentiated readers that can "hop … (0 comments)

Shipshape! - 10/22/08 02:36 PM
Shipshape
defn:  Leadership-the ability to guide, direct, or influence poeple.defn:  Craftsmanship-somebody who proforms with great skills and expertise. True leaders deliver performance that is durable, that unifies staff, and treats them fairly. Leaders are intrinsically motivated to improve oneself and their organizations. True leadership is creating environments where excellence in performance becomes inevitable. I have seen this environment where excellence in performance is given each and every day. You can hear it in the receptionist; her smile is given over the phone. You can feel it in the post card; reaching out a helping hand. You can see it the habits; creating power … (0 comments)

Engagement - 10/22/08 01:22 PM
Streamlining EngagementThe Vision of this title might seem like your in Vegas, waiting in line to get married by Elvis in the chapel.  Complete with the "Teddy Bear" and "The Chain Around Your Neck". But alas, the title does come with one similarity.  You need true commitment!Commitment to Streamlining your Engagement Processes. As the economic environment moves toward greater efficiency, maximizing efficiency can not only decrease wasted time and thereby increase profitability for your business, it also can help businesses who face staffing challenges that can enable the business to offer better services and increase their base without increasing staff. The "paperless" movement has changed our work processes forever.  Moving us from inefficient … (0 comments)

Persuasion - 10/15/08 09:03 AM
Persuasion: An art form that has been developed across time by many great sales people. I like a simple definition for persuasion "getting your way". You can read all types of books on persuasion written by psychologists, business coaches, and sales professionals. They will give you lists and scripts. They will give you qualities and a skill set. They will write from 100 pages to 500 pages on persuasion. They will give you so much information you will have to first persuade yourself to read another book. Let's simplify all these books and look at the main ingredient in persuasion. The … (0 comments)

2 to 3 - 10/14/08 04:47 PM
When you were just a youth, you could go from 2 to 3.  You may have started with blocks.  Now you have grown and you still need to play with blocks.  Can your business now go from 2 to 3?
Marketing for most of us starts with 2 blocks.  These building blocks are Stories and Statistics.  The first "S" block is the Stories that define everything you say and do about your business, your products, your people, and your service.  Stories apply to everyone in your business, in your partners, in your vendors, in your office.  People love to tell stories … (0 comments)
