This years Katsu Challenge is Coming! 
Make plans to attend this Traditional Karate Tournament here in Gainesville! 
Our 2007 event hosted over 200 athletes from Florida and Georgia.  Please visit their website for Registration Information if you plan to compete.
There will also be a separate kids area including a bounce house and other activities.  This area is free for all kids in attendance. It will be a great spectator-family fun event!

I am firm believer that if you Don't Vote, you are NOT allowed to gripe. 
For us here in beautiful Florida, the Amendment #1 VOTE is very important issue.  So even if you have the blahs about the presidential race, please get out and MAKE YOUR OPINION KNOWN on Amendment #1. 
For those in the City of Gainesville, there is a commission race, so please go cast your vote for that as well.

Homestead Exemption - Alachua County, Florida - Don't forget to File! - 01/23/08 05:48 PM
After the holiday season each year, we all start thinking about April 15th.  The IRS DAY, or impending DOOM DAY.  But there is another VERY important DAY to remember. Especially if you bought your home in 2007. 
Homestead Exemption must be filed by MARCH 1st for the year you want to "qualify".  
If you bought a home in Alachua County in 2007, make sure you file for homestead exemption BEFORE March 1st of 2008.   You only have to do this one time, but it directly effects your budget and will save you approximately $700 in real estate taxes.

So many of us hardworking, professional REALTORS® have a great "network" with other REALTORS® all over the great U.S.A.   It's great to have a network, and when we all get to know each other, it makes an even better relationship for referrals and our business.
Today, I got a great email from one of my "network" buddies, with a question about the University of Florida and "student housing" options. (Yippie, a referral!)
And he sent me this silly photo about me being a busy, Realtor®.......

Let's Be Good Neighbors - 01/11/08 11:11 AM
Those of us living in Gainesville and all of Alachua County fall into the Suwannee River Water Management District.  The Gainesville Sun ran an article on January 8th about how we are now all under "new water restrictions".
Suwannee River Water Management District covers portions of 15 counties in North Central Florida.  The district's governing board has voted to ban lawn watering between 7:00 am and 9:00PM.

Good Signs & Market Indicators on Week # 1 of 2008 - 01/06/08 02:37 PM
Here it is Sunday afternoon, January 6th of 2008 and I am so happy about my business activities this week.  My positive attitude was rewarded with very good signs that the holidays are over and folks are starting to spend time looking into real estate!
My phone rang this week.....a lot!!  It's a great sound and a good market indicator. 
I got calls on my listings and signs from people wanting to view the home.
I got emails, web hits, and inquiries from new buyers.  Other agents in my office have also said that their phones are ringing with new buyers.

Warning !! Frozen Bird Baths & Exploding Hoses - 01/01/08 06:30 PM
I spent some time this afternoon getting ready for a hard-freeze headed our way.  The weather gurus say we are in for 2-days of hard freeze nights. Those of us in the Gainesville-Alachua County areahaven't had two consecutive nights with a hard freeze for over 5 years. 
Brrrrrr, it's gonna be cold !
I don't want any more exploding hoses, so I detached all my nozzles.  I can't tell you how many garden hoses I have ruined because they froze and "exploded".  Remember, I grew up in Miami....I never knew a freeze until 1995.
