business advice: Realtors®: We Are Practicing Real Estate Service - 01/19/10 09:51 AM
Do you think that being a Realtor® makes you an expert about Real Estate? That's a heavy question. I think that Realtors® need to start looking at their career in real estate just like Doctors and Lawyers look at their profession. What happens if a person wants to be a doctor? They go to school for MANY years. They have to pass massive exams. They get a license in a state of their choice. Their medical field is ever changing with science, new drugs, new illnesses, new cures, etc. They continue their education throughout their careers. Therefore they are PRACTICING

business advice: OUT with the OLD and IN with the NEW.....2009 - 12/28/08 10:46 AM
That is the saying we have heard so many times...... I have such a habit of cleaning my home, my desk, my car, my files, etc.....all for the goal of organizing my life between Christmas and New Years. It's my MENTAL way of getting my brain in order. The same holds true for my current listings. I noticed that the "expired" listings on our MLS database is up and our inventory is down. I know that is a normal thing for the end of the year. I have new listings that have gone into the MLS this week, with more after

business advice: Early Christmas Gift from My Broker - 12/05/08 02:40 PM
Every year an office or company has a lavish Christmas Party. Ever since I have been with RE/MAX Professionals here in Gainesville, we have always had a wonderful sit-down Christmas Dinner - all at the expense of our broker, Gary Thomas. (I know that I work with the best broker-owner in town.) It's been a lean year, and this year our broker told us that we would have an "office" Christmas Party rather than the formal dinner party. BUT...... Gary Thomas has just given all of his agents an excellent Christmas Gift. My "big" broker has purchased every agent in our firm a

business advice: Are you a Relentless Realtor® ? - 09/30/08 06:46 PM
Sit back in your chair now, and ask yourself a question. If you had to pick ONE WORD to describe yourself, your real estate business, your marketing plan on your listings, and your commitment to your clients.....what word would you select ?? After a meeting with a client this week, I used this word to describe my work ethic - and my client loved it. So, here is my word of the day: RELENTLESS Thanks to the Webster-Online Dictionary, the offiicial definition is: showing or promising no abatement of severity, intensity, strength, or pace. We all know

business advice: An Escrow Dispute - Every Realtor's Nightmare - 09/09/08 05:16 PM
One of the things that makes my career in Real Estate interesting is that "everything is changing or evolving". Over the years the market changes. One year it's a buyers' market and then a sellers' market. The giant wheel of real estate. It keeps rolling along, year after year. Each month brings new clients buyers and sellers. New state laws effect our business and not to mention our Realtor Code of Ethics. Everything changes, and improves for the better. And for me, this includes my professional growth. As a professional, we always have a transaction that "teaches us"

business advice: Community Service is Good for Your Business - 04/11/08 05:05 PM
I want to share a Fun Filled Friday!! Another Active Rain member, Jack Patton, made arrangements for our RE/MAX office to take part in the CAREER DAY at Trenton Elementary School in Gilchrist County, FL. Jack made an agreement with Florida's official RE/MAX Hot Air Balloon Pilot, Richard Davenport to meet us all there at the school. We love doing the balloon events at the schools! The entire student body, administration and teachers of Trenton Elementary had a fun Career Day watching how the "Real RE/MAX Balloon" is assembled and is operated. Then they got to ride UP.....and DOWN.

business advice: Build your Business Referral Directory - 03/01/08 08:39 PM
When the market slowed down over the holidays, I found myself a project to work on. I have been very happy with the process and wanted to share it with everyone. My clients know that I am always here for them, and I stay in touch with my clients. This project has helped me complete and put in place my Business Referral Directory. After a closing, let you clients know that they can pick up the phone and call you if you need a referral for a painter, or a plumber. I like to share what I have learned and what other clients have

business advice: HELP! Advice Needed on Digital Camera Purchase - 11/28/07 09:26 PM
Tis the season, and all the electronic stuff is on sale....so what a great time for me to buy a new digital camera! The problem is, I hate taking the advice of the Geek Squad and Techy Heads at Best Buy or Circuit City. I think it best to ask the all-knowing techy Realtors here on Active Rain. My digital camera is 3 years old, and works great. But when I see others photos (Like Barbara-Jo's)......it seems that I need to get better shots, more clarity, and sharper image. I think that means I need new Hardware!! I do all my own photography for

business advice: The "Secret Seven" to Success! - 11/02/07 05:52 PM
I have had the "SECRET SEVEN F's to SUCCESS" hanging on the bulletin board above my desk for years. It's on a small 3 x 5 card that has turned yellow (showing it's old age) But this little list never gets covered up on that board. Lots of times, while on the phone....it will catch my eye and I read The Seven "F's for Success, again and again. It's good Brain Food and a mental "Pick-me-Up" on a long, weary day. I thought this would be a great blog for a Friday afternoon - and wanted to share with you! IND........ a place & time!ORGET.......your failures!IGHT.......distractions!OCUS........on Success!AITHFUL.....to

business advice: Reference Books for Your Professional Life - 10/20/07 12:23 PM
We have all heard the old saying "Hindsight is 20/20", isn't that so very true? We have all said it to ourselves throughout our careers. Since the beginning of 2007, I have been saying it to myself quite a bit. Especially after reading these two books. Let me share my story..... Earlier this year, I found myself personally and professionally knee deep in "BURN-OUT Mode". Last year (2006) was a record setting year for me professionally, but the other parts of my life were in "neglected" mode. With the new year 2007, I found myself running on empty. And by March 07

business advice: Are you a Good Listener? Take the Quiz - 10/02/07 12:11 PM
When we have first contact with clients via phone or email, everything is verbal....all us want to set the appointment for a face-to-face meeting. We have to use our verbal skills to get the appointment. When we have the first meeting with a clients, we have to put our best foot forward - to get that listing or to get that buyer. Recently, I have learned that the "listening" is a wonderful tool to understand your customer's needs. Everyone at my company got this "ListenMoreTalkLess"handout via email. And I wanted to share it with all the everyone that reads my blog. I am always positive and energetic about ways to

business advice: No-Fault Insurance is GONE! Protect Yourself NOW! - 09/30/07 05:16 PM
As of October 1, 2007 the Florida No-Fault insurance requirement is GONE. Every Florida driver needs to be aware that you NOW must protect yourself. Call your car insurance agent and/or company immediately and make sure that you have "Uninsured Motorist Coverage" on your policy. Take a moment, pull out your policy and double check to make sure that you DO HAVE this coverage. I was in an accident Labor Day 2006, and the person responsible for the accident had minimal coverage. I found out that I did not have that coverage, AND I had "waived" the coverage in 1996! I had "assumed" that I had

business advice: The All Powerful...All Knowing "GOOGLE" - Caution Advisory! - 08/28/07 09:05 AM
I try to stay up-to-date on techno-stuff, and just heard about this today. Our internet is a great tool, but wow...then you start thinking about how horrible people could use this to hurt others....here is a thought to ponder. This truly proves to me how all-powerful our internet has become. I love Google! I Google everything and my son uses it to do research for school. But this is one thing everyone should take a look at, and consider for yourself. Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the

business advice: Protect Yourself against Identity Theft - 07/10/07 06:52 AM
A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! I wanted to share this with the AR Network.1 . Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED". 2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the
