gainesville fl: Happy New Year 2012 in Gainesville Florida - 01/02/12 12:55 PM
Happy New Year to YOU and YOUR family! I hope that you've had great fun family plans over the holiday! I’ve got a nice dinner planned and we will be watching college football on TV most of the day. Go Gators!! It’s a beautiful day outside too, but we are expecting a hard freeze tonight. So, I hope to have a really nice fire going in the fireplace tonight. Plenty of TV/Football munchies too! I’ve got a positive attitude about what the new year will bring. I am hoping that my business will continue to prosper. I’ve

gainesville fl: Symphony of Crickets - 11/30/10 09:50 AM
I had a productive “Monday”. After the long weekend, my TO-DO list was pretty large. But, it all got done and it felt good. It was a satisfying feeling while cooking dinner. We got the dishes done and I had just sat down to check email and write a blog, then “poof”….our power went out. No rain, wind, or storms. But the entire area was out. (I knew I paid the power bill.) We found some flash lights, and lit a candle. It’s amazing how QUIET it truly is when the power is out. No buzz from power supplies,

gainesville fl: Unique Halloween Decoration in Gainesville - 10/27/09 05:44 PM
While driving out Millhopper Road yesterday, I saw the most unique Halloween decoration in someone's yard.....and I didn't have my camera with me. So, today I made sure I had my camera. I thought it rated a photo to share. I don't know the owners that live in this home, but it sure get's "two thumbs up" for creativity !! What a creative way to paint and decorate a roll of hay !! So take a drive out Millhopper Road and this home is on the south side before you get to CR 241. They deserve a decoration

gainesville fl: NOT your ordinary home for sale on 10 ordinary acres - It's a MUST SEE! - 02/01/09 07:52 AM
This is a true Florida gem. I have to admit that it is so hard to visualize the beauty of the landscape of this property in the photos. I will do my best to describe everything in my words on this post. This home sits on 10.88 acres just 15 minutes west of Gainesville, Florida. The property is gated and perimeter fenced and you will be surrounded by nature at it's best. The privacy of this home & property is hard to find so close to all the city feel of Gainesville. The MAIN home is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath

gainesville fl: Gatorback Cycle Park - Yes, we've got Motorcross in Alachua County Florida! (LOCALISM FEATURED) - 01/27/09 11:12 PM
Recently, while talking with one of my real estate clients, an out of state buyer.....she told me her son was into "motocross" and asked if there was a track anywhere near Gainesville? I told her about GATORBACK Cycle Park in Alachua, FL, just north of Gainesville. When she told her son about it......he already knew about it because of some of the popular events that happen at GATORBACK Cycle Park each year. In operation for over 25 years, the 100 acre track is host to the MX Winter Olympics, which usually takes place during Thanksgiving week. You can see the full

gainesville fl: Gainesville in "Alachua" County - How do you pronounce that?? - 08/06/08 04:21 PM
This weekend I had the pleasure of working with "out of state" buyers. When buyers can make a trip here, I like to call it their "Pre-Purchase Visit", and I am more than happy to be their tour guide. I know some Realtors are thinking......."oh boy, what a waste of time.....". But, in my opinion, it helps people relocating to Gainesville become familiar with our beautiful area, and discover the neighborhoods & subdivisions that they like (or dislike). Gainesville is the county seat for Alachua County here in the Sunshine State. But again this weekend, my buyers asked

gainesville fl: It's Turn Over Time in Gainesville - 05/03/08 08:05 PM
Anyone living in a "college town" knows what the meaning of "TURN OVER" time. At the end of each semester, you have students moving in and moving out....Turn Over Time. Property management companies that deal with rentals know this is their high stress season. But, I don't want to talk about rentals, let's talk about the Residential Real Estate Market in Gainesville FL. Today was Graduation Day for the University of Florida. You can't get a hotel room in town this weekend, and you will be waiting for tables at most of the restaurants in town too. I spent

This week has given me a great dose of Spring fever! Spring Bloomers are everywhere around Gainesville, Florida. All types and colors of AZALEAS are strutting their stuff and I had to share and brag about my front lawn. The winter frosts and freezes are gone, and my lawn is starting to prove this!! Another of my ANNUAL blooms are my amarilla bulbs that thrive in my front flower beds. They too are happy as can be and are proud bloomers too! I love Spring! My landscape is waking up, showing new colors and I love to spend time

gainesville fl: Let's Be Good Neighbors - 01/11/08 11:11 AM
Those of us living in Gainesville and all of Alachua County fall into the Suwannee River Water Management District. The Gainesville Sun ran an article on January 8th about how we are now all under "new water restrictions". Suwannee River Water Management District covers portions of 15 counties in North Central Florida. The district's governing board has voted to ban lawn watering between 7:00 am and 9:00PM. Let's all be Good Neighbors! If you have an automatic timer for your irrigation system, you can adjust your settings to comply with the new times. If you are are on a private well,

gainesville fl: Warning !! Frozen Bird Baths & Exploding Hoses - 01/01/08 06:30 PM
I spent some time this afternoon getting ready for a hard-freeze headed our way. The weather gurus say we are in for 2-days of hard freeze nights. Those of us in the Gainesville-Alachua County areahaven't had two consecutive nights with a hard freeze for over 5 years. Brrrrrr, it's gonna be cold ! I don't want any more exploding hoses, so I detached all my nozzles. I can't tell you how many garden hoses I have ruined because they froze and "exploded". Remember, I grew up in Miami....I never knew a freeze until 1995. Next on my To-DO list to prepare for

gainesville fl: Paynes Prairie State Park and one of my Favorite Photos - 12/03/07 07:15 PM
Since I began blogging 6 months ago on Active Rain, I have spent spare time searching and researching topics for my blog and posts to Localism.Com. One of the links on my blog page is for Paynes Prairie State Park with information about this beautiful State Park right here in Alachua County. I stumbled across one of the most beautiful photos I have seen in a very long time, and I wanted to share it here. I love this photo so much, that I contacted the photographer to ask for a higher resolution jpg file. And he sent me one. His name is
