3 Reasons Gainesville Florida rocks!

Ever since we moved to Gainesville Florida two years ago, I began my quest to become its Number 1 fan!  There is SO MUCH to love about living in Gainesville! Here are the top 3 reasons Gainesville is a GREAT place to live!
1) The WEATHER ... well, except for the summer, which is akin to leaving your oven door open and parking yourself in front of it for the day. But if the worst thing Gainesville weather has to offer is summer heat paired with wilting humidity, no problem! I'd much rather deal with … (6 comments)

Gopher tortoises in Gainesville FL - What to do if you find one?

I have always wanted to use the phrase "Do not try this at home" but never really had a chance to. Until now.
Let me explain.
One of the things that I love the MOST about living in Gainesville FL is all of the wildlife!  Frogs, toads, anole lizards, and snakes abound. Every night I hear an owl hooting in our backyard.  Gainesville FL is a GREAT place to live especially if you love the outdoors.
So imagine my unbounded joy when I discovered this cute little … (6 comments)

Buyers Don't Give a Crap about How Much Debt You Have

For those with tender sensibilities, I would suggest clicking away to something more...ahem....diplomatic.
However, for those who are not allergic to cold hard truths delivered in street language....welcome to my blog.

Here are 2 hard truths that you, as a potential homeseller, need to come to grips with if you plan on selling your home in this market (and by this market I mean Gainesville, FL....though the following truths apply to many other markets in the U.S. as well):

gainesville florida: How I know ActiveRain works! - 03/04/10 02:43 PM
How I know ActiveRain works!

So I'm sitting here in my living room office, working from my couch desk, when my cellphone rings.
It's the UPS guy.
He's got a package for M.M. Parrish, but it's got an Alachua address. He wants to know how to get there.
Hmm.
I don't work in Alachua, and our office is in Gainesville.
"What does the label say?" I ask.
"M.M. Parrish Construction," he says.
"I work for M.M. Parrish Realtors, not M.M. Parrish Construction," I say.
"Well how do I get to M.M. Parrish Construction?" he asks.
"I have no clue. Hold … (12 comments)

Yesterday I saw a parade of Model T Fords out on a joyride in Gainesville FL.....the riders were all huddled up in blankets.  Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "cool car"!

Fun at my home inspection

Yes, you read that right.

After all the drama that was our 18 month long wait for our house to sell  in Pittsburgh, PA, and after losing our financial shorts in a major way, I am thrilled to report that we've BOUGHT a HOUSE in the Haile Plantation neighborhood of Gainesville, Florida!  And best of all, since we live in Gainesville, Florida, we'll be able to live in the house that we've bought!   Much more gratifying than owning a house, and paying for a house, in a town where we don't live.

Radon: What is it, why should I care, and what can I do about it?

Q.  Is radon real?
Yup. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms as the result of the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water, and can be found anywhere in the world.  This radioactive gas comes up out of the ground and can seep into buildings. According to the United States Surgeon General, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths in the United States after smoking.  A 2003 report from the EPA estimated that radon causes about 21,000 lung … (9 comments)

Looking for music for your videos? Try ccmixter!

Several months back, when I discovered the unbearable fun that is imovie, I started posting youtube videos of homes for sale,  places to go, and things to do in and around Gainesville, Florida.
I used the musical tracks provided with my imovie package to finish off my videos.  But then I started getting these "content ID matches" emails from youtube, saying they had received notifications that I was "lifting" music that didn't belong to me.
The musical tracks available in imovie show up as being owned by Apple, and the imovie … (6 comments)
