When people think of Galveston Island, they normally think of summertime, and time spent on the beach.  But Galveston isn't just for summer.  Here are highlights of the many events happening in Galveston year round

JANUARY

Galveston ArtWalk

Tour the art galleries and antique shops in Galveston's Historic Downtown Strand District

FEBRUARY

Mardi Gras Galveston

Second only to New Orleans.  Galveston pulls out all the stops with 9 different parades and a host of masquerade balls.  Something for adults and children alike.  Don't miss the Children's Parade and the Barkus and Meow Parade.  12 days and 11 nights of revelry. 

APRIL

Feather Fest

This annual festival is absolutely amazing.  It heralds the spring migration of some 300 species of birds to Galveston Island.  There are birding tours, nature trips, and seminars.

MAY

Historical Homes Tour

Private homes representing many different styles of Galveston architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries are open for tour.

Oleander Festival

Galveston is known as the Oleander City. The Festival features floral design exhibits, floral photo contest, plant sales, gardening lectures and tours of the Island's Oleander Gardens

Yaga's Wild Game Cookoff

This annual event is held on Galveston Harbour's Pier 21

JUNE

AIA Sandcastle Competition

Don't miss this.  Held on East Beach it delights young and old alike.  Not like the sandcastles I used to make!

JULY

July 4th Fireworks Display

It doesn't get any better than watching fireworks over the Gulf of Mexico.

AUGUST

Gulf Coast Volleyball Association Tournament

Band on the Sand at East Beach

SEPTEMBER

Downtown Farmers Market


Held at Saengerfest Park, 23rd & Strand, the second Saturday of every month

OCTOBER

ARToberFEST

This juried arts festival showcases both established and new artists.

NOVEMBER

Lone Star Motorcycle Rally

This is a four day island wide event.  A Texas size event, it attracts more than 250,000 bikers and motorcycle admirers.

Galveston.com and Company Epicurean Evening

Galveston chefs cook up their best.  There is nothing like Gulf Coast cuisine.

DECEMBER

Dickens on The Strand

Step back in time to Merry Olde England.  The historic Strand District is literally transformed into Victorian England.  Parades, artisans and merriment abound.  Make this your family holiday tradition!

A Victorian Christmas Homes Tour

A wonderful tour of private historical homes all decked out for the holidays.

Moody Gardens Festival of Lights

Don't even think about missing this month long display. Acres of holiday light displays and a huge outdoor skating rink.
