Although Mississauga is running low on new lands for development, for the 11th consecutive year, the City of Mississauga has exceeded the $1-billion mark in the value of building permits issued According to the December year-end Building Report, the City issued a total of 4,571 building permits in 2007, exceeding the 2006 year-end total by 6.5 per cent. The City's building statistics show a nine per cent increase in residential construction value over last year and a five per cent increase in construction value for churches/schools and public/city development. As expected, there was no change in prime at the Bank of Canada announcement this morning because tighter credit conditions and the high currency is sucking the steam out of the Canadian economy. According to the Central Bank, the economy is operating in overdrive but it predicts this trend won't last for long.Even though the U.S. lowered their rate last month by .5%, the Canadian economy is vastly different from that our neighbours to the south of the border.
