My brother and I just sold a house here in South Lake Tahoe for $2,500,000. It closed the week before the Angora Fire up here, and it was right in the middle of the fire zone. Miraculously it was saved, as were the 30+ other high-end homes in it’s immediate neighborhood. Because this sale was so notable, and two other homes in the neighborhood are for sale, and perhaps because nearby homeowners could be thinking about selling as well, due to the fire or not, this is a perfect transaction to use as an example to explore truth in advertising... and

The Agent-Centric Model of Doing Business:How many times have we seen this one? An agent shows up for a listing presentation... and all they do is talk about themselves for two solid hours. It’s a long winded soapbox oratory full of spirited hyperbole about why the agent is the best thing since sliced bread. The whole boastful barrage could be summed up in 8 short words: “List with me because I’m the best.”What nonsense. We call this the Agent-Centric model of doing real estate business. It’s all about the Agent. It’s easy to know what it is when one sees it.

Median Sold Price represents the price at which an equal number of houses were sold for more and for less. For example, if there were 201 total home sales, there would be 100 sales below, and 100 sales above the median sold price. Real estate professionals tend to rely on Median Sold Price rather than the Average Sold Price because the average can sometimes be skewed by the sale of a relatively small number of houses at either end of the price scale. We believe, as do most real estate statisticians, Median Sold Price gives a truer indication of overall market

Virus Alert! “You’ve got a card from a family member.” - 07/17/07 10:49 AM
Recently we’ve been getting a lot of these emails. It’s either a card or e-card from a family member, or a greeting from a friend, or a variation of that idea.The first one we saw was around father’s day. Since my daughter-in-law has sent online cards to us before, I thought the email came from her. It didn’t, but when I clicked on the link to get the card, I immediately got a virus alert from PC-cillin. The infected file was named 123[1].html.It contains an iteration of a backdoor virus that allows a remote user virtual control over the affected system.

Only pen and ink, and candlelight to write at night. He was only 33 years old. And he did it alone, in two rented rooms of an otherwise occupied house... in the unairconditioned weather of mid summertime. And yes, it was on a deadline. There was a sense of urgency at that time. Grief and Gratitude at the same time. ("Signs of Life") It wasn’t until yesterday that the public was allowed to enter the fire zone where homes were lost. It is devastating. Feeling that, and seeing it, it’s also remarkable to see one house standing intact, where in all directions around it everything is gone. It seems like most streets here where the fire whipped us most have one of those. We feel grief for some and grateful for others at the same time. In singular purpose, a professional, portable community springs up overnight. Having started on a Sunday, and consequently at a time when much of the local news media has a day off, it took some time for those of us who live here in South Lake Tahoe to get real, meaningful information about the fire.
