This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Wharf to Wharf Race. This is an annual and well attended foot race in Santa Cruz County. The runners run from the Santa Cruz Wharf to Capitola Wharf, a total of six miles. There will be 40 bands along the way, highlighting some local talent. The locals do come out in droves to watch.The race course is mostly along the ocean, so it is relatively flat. I'm starting to feel a sense of normalcy returning to the economy. People are buying homes again, people are travelling (I can see it on the freeway on the weekends--lots of cars loaded up with vacation gear), and I was at the airport this past weekend, and it was packed. Sadly, one of my close friends who lives in a resort area, has left the real estate business. Just when you thought, or heard, hat Americans were getting out of debt, moneyrates.com comes up with an infographic stating otherwise. Interestingly, I hardly know anybody who has not paid down their debt substantially in the last few years, and besides, credit is not being handed out like candy on Halloween anymore. Three days ago, I wrote a piece about hte iPhone turning 5 years old. A while back, I heard something that made all the sense in the world to me. Throughout the years, when we by a new piece of technology, the moment we take it out of the box, it is virtually obsolete.
