Fort San Juan de Ulúa - Mexico #2 - 03/26/11 02:59 PM
Fort San Juan de Ulúa has been attacked by the British, the Dutch, the French and even the United States while it has been protecting Veracruz, Mexico. The port here is the oldest and largest in Mexico with a fantastic history.
Fort San Juan de Ulúa can be reached by boat or a bridge from downtown Veracruz. The Fort with its museum is well worth the time and small admission fee. As is the case with most museums and historical sites in Mexico, it is closed on Mondays.

Are you learning another language either for fun or for business?
Here is a fun tip.
Start with children's books. You can find them at your local library or bookstore.
I am always working on my Spanish for Latin America and I really enjoy the dual language books with everything in Spanish and English (usually side-by-side pages).
I have also found very basic books in Spanish are a great way to relax for just a minute and still learn something.

If you are a Canadian citizen and plan on visiting or moving to another country, here is a program that you should know about. (And if you're a US citizen, for information on a similar US program click here).
The Canadian government provides a free program called "Registration of Canadians Abroad" (ROCA).
After you sign up, you will automatically receive updates along with current information for any foreign country. You only need to sign up once and then add or delete any country that you may visit or move to.

I've given a lot of thought to Spring Renewal. I even waited until the calendar told me that it was spring, but mother nature made me stop and really think about springtime. in southwest Wyoming, it's easy to think that spring will never come. In the last week we got 2 or 3 feet of new snow. Where I have shoveled paths I now have to throw the snow higher than my head. Over the years I have given my clients different closing gifts. I've felt that a gift should be thoughtful and memorable. And I've come to believe that the closing gift should be much, much more than just a thank you gift. it should be a beginning for future contacts and business.

Fort San Juan de Ulúa is located on an island and is part of the City of Veracruz, Mexico. This island is the site where the Spanish first landed in their conquest of Mexico.
Fort San Juan de Ulúa protected the city from foreign nations and from pirates. It was started in 1582 and completed in 1707. The fort has been used as a prison and now is a tourist attraction with a very interesting museum.

As we celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we may have something extra to celebrate. The first non-native people to set foot in the New World may have been Irish.
St. Brendan, born in County Kerry, Ireland, set sail in about 512 to 530 AD to search for the Garden of Eden.
There are many medieval texts which describe St. Brendan's voyages in the Atlantic and the Irish were noted early explorers.

The Pyramid of The Moon - 03/12/11 01:28 AM
The Pyramid of the Moon is north of the Pyramid of the Sun and at the end of the Avenue of the Dead. It is in the ancient city of Teotihuacán and is about 25 miles northwest of Mexico City. The pyramid is 140 feet high and it is 426 by 611 feet at the base.

"If you ever have a chance to ride in a hot air balloon, you must go. Imagine the feeling that an eagle must have as he floats through the sky -- it is so peaceful and you feel that you can see forever. The Pyramid of the Sun is the largest pyramid in the Americas and is the third largest in the world. It is about 25 miles northwest of Mexico City. It is in the ancient city of Teotihuacán. The pyramid is 233.5 feet high and each side is 733.2 feet long at the base.

Who Deserves a Referral Fee?
I've recently been reading comments and posts about paying referral fees. It is an interesting subject and I think worthy of discussion. I have read about agents who have given referrals and received nothing in return or possibly a token such as lunch. I've also read of agents who have refused to pay referral fees because they did not receive timely referral paperwork. I've heard of agents who have given referrals and later expected exorbitant fees or even some who have simply forgotten about the referral. I'm interested in your opinions and thought … (10 comments)

Hummingbirds are my favorite birds. They have such energy and their migration is fascinating. Most hummingbirds spend the winter in Mexico or Central America (I can relate to that). And now in March, they are just starting to migrate back to the US and Canada. I can't help but think about what a long trip it is for such a tiny bird.

I'm worried about mine and I need to make some changes.
In the last few weeks, several of my friends have lost their email -- fortunately it was a temporary situation, but it made me much more aware of what could happen if I lost my email tomorrow and it could not be recovered. I've also seen problems with several of the major email services.
