Día del Niño - 04/30/11 03:10 PM

Día del Niño

Today is a holiday in Colombia and Mexico.
Día del Niño (Children's Day) is a great holiday and even if you are not in Colombia or Mexico, I encourage you to celebrate where ever you are.
This holiday is celebrated on other days in some countries.
The purpose for Día del Niño is to honor children and promote their well being.
The best thing that you can do to honor this day is to spend time with children.

Flyers are Dead? - 04/29/11 06:29 PM
Flyers are Dead?

Flyers are dead. Newspapers are dead. Magazines are dead. Snail mail is dead. Technology has taken over.
Do you believe this?
Well I don't. The latest surveys show that newspaper and magazine readership is increasing. And flyers have a definite place in a well designed marketing program.
You may say that you don't need flyers because you are using QR codes. Only 50% of cellular users have smart phones and of this number, the majority don't have a clue what a QR code is.
But let's get back to flyers.

The Story of a Sign - 04/28/11 07:52 PM
I purchased a little real estate company in 2000. The company had a sign so ugly that you wouldn't have believed it. At one time they had a nice patriotic looking sign, but a major franchise sent them a letter saying that they couldn't use the franchise colors or they would be sued. (Don't you just love the heavy handed techniques of big business). Anyway they rapidly changed the sign and it was not good.  I felt a new logo was important and hired a graphic designer and after several attempts that either looked like everyone else or just plain ugly, … (19 comments)

Try Something New - Try a Russsian Tostada

Tonight I tried a new version of a food loved by the Mayas, Aztecs and Incas.
I had a tostada, which they originated, but I tried a new twist.
My tostada was a Russian Tostada.
I took a tostada shell and placed some fresh grilled salmon on top.
I then added sour cream, chopped red onion, chopped boiled egg and some cucumber slices.
Next came some caviar and fresh dill as a garnish.
It was yummy.
Especially along with some Pinot Gris.

365 Things to Love About Latin America Day 12: Investments
Latin America has many opportunities for investment.
Almost everywhere you see dramatic growth opportunities. Real estate is easily affordable now, but demand is starting to raise the prices.
If you or your clients are considering investments, real estate in Latin America should not be overlooked.
We often hear of the opportunities for investment in China, but yesterday the Wall Street Journal said, "Brazil has overtaken China as the number one destination for private equity investments in emerging markets over the next year."

Ermita del Rosario - First Church in the Americas - 04/17/11 05:01 PM
The first church built in continental America is the Ermita del Rosario (Chapel of the Rosary).
It is a white stucco chapel located in La Antigua Mexico.  The construction was started by Dominican Friars in 1519 and it was completed in 1525. At the door is the tomb of the priest and vicar of the city. It is dated 1604.
A second reason that this chapel is significant historically is because it was the location for the first baptism of an Indian.
The Chapel is just down the street from the La Casa de Hernán Cortés.

There are so many colors and sizes. You can find almost any type of look. Flowers are in the churches, the homes & gardens, in businesses and just in the wild.
An interesting fact about Latin American flowers is that approximately 90% of all cut flowers sold in the United States were grown in Latin America, especially in Ecuador and Columbia.

365 Things to Love About Latin America Day 9: Churches
Churches are big in Latin America -- and small.  It seems you can find any size from tiny chapels to huge cathedrals.
They can be very simple in design or extremely elaborate.
If you enjoy art and architecture you will find an overwhelming amount of variety to observe. Churches are everywhere.
If you go to worship, you can be together with large crowds or slip in and worship almost any time by yourself.
You can find quiet reflection or massive pageantry.

365 Things to Love About Latin America Day 8:  Rain Forests
Much of the natural beauty in Latin America can be found in the rain forests.  They are so lush and green.  All of them contain a tremendous diversity of plants and animals.
Tropical rain forests are common in Central America, the northern part of South America and Mexico.
Temperate rain forests can be found in southern Chile.
A forest is considered a rain forest when it receives 69 to 79 inches of rain in a year.
