“Safe Internet Day” --  2GB of free cloud storage "today only"

Maybe it is not really free -- you will need to invest a minute or so of your time.  But it is something that you should be doing anyway.  Google will give you the extra 2GB of cloud storage for completing a "Security checkup" by February 11, 2016.

Did you know that you already have 30GB of free cloud storage from Google? And if you add the free 2GB you will have 32GB of free storage.

This can be used in Gmail, Photos, and Google Drive.  If you are not using … (8 comments)

Ringing and Singing in the Rain with Kristian Schonberg

Today I had a great conversation with Kristian Schonberg of Windermere Peninsula Properties in Allyn, Washington.  I found Kristian listed as joining Dec. 18, 2015 which makes him a Newbie to ActiveRain but when it comes to his neighborhood he has years of experience.

Kristian specializes in properties in an area he describes as rural "with lots of open space and not many homes".  This is basically the Peninsula covering Kitsap, Mason and part of Pierce Counties.  He  knows the ins and outs of waterfront properties and vacant land in … (10 comments)

8 Tips to Build Your Referral Business
1 -- Do More Than Your Clients and Business Associates ExpectThe very best way to gain the confidence and support of others is to exceed their expectations.  We always remember someone who surprised us by giving that little extra touch to their work or the person who did some unique extra step for us. 2  -- Take Advantage of Your Business and Social NetworksIt seems we all have networks these days.  Some are business  -- like LinkedIn or Toastmasters or the Chamber of Commerce.  Others are social - like Twitter or Instagram or Pinterest. Ringing and Singing in the Rain with Kathleen Daniels

Today I had a great conversation with Kathleen Daniels of KD Realty in San Jose.  Yesterday Kathleen wrote a very interesting post titled "Simple Question: Agent Refuses to Pay a Referral Fee"

Most of my business is dealing with referrals and after considering her post, I wrote my own. Mine was titled ActiveRain Community Guidelines and Referrals. We communicated with comments and started following each other here in the Rain. Today she even re-blogged my post.

Kathleen is an independent broker with a boutique office in San Jose California. She is a specialist in the Santa … (24 comments)

activerain: ActiveRain Community Guidelines and Referrals - 01/20/16 02:54 PM
Kathleen Daniels wrote an interesting post today titled "Simple Question: Agent Refuses to Pay a Referral Fee".  Most of my business is dealing with referrals and naturally, I have been giving her post a lot of thought.
I also wondered how the question relates to the ActiveRain Community Guidelines which many of us have been reviewing for the 2016 Blog JUMPSTART Challenge - Grow Your Personal Best for YOUR Success
My personal viewpoint is that anyone who assists me should be rewarded. I have paid referral fees with no referral agreement and also for referrals three or four years after I have received them. In one … (48 comments)

activerain: Strange Sunday….. - 11/08/15 11:19 AM
One of the most thoughtful and caring members from here in the Rain can use your thoughts and prayers.  Please take a minute and go to her original blog and say hello.
It has been a long time since I was afraid of anything but I am today. Tomorrow I am actually having two surgeries back to back, and won't get the results on the second for about a week thereafter. I deal better with pain than apprehension and I am doing my best to just relax and let things unfold, but it isn't easy. If you could keep a good thought for me, I … (4 comments)

This is something that you do not see every day and I thought it would be fun to see what you think it is.

I will post the answer on Monday.

And I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

activerain: Creating Killer Passwords & Remembering Them With Ease - 10/22/15 01:25 PM
Passwords, Passwords, Passwords.  They are so important but they are the proverbial pain in the ***.

First you should have a tough password.
Next you should have a different password for each site.
And finally you should change it often.

Guess what?

I have a system that lets me do all of that and I can easily remember each and every password. My system is simple and anyone can use it easily.  I want a 15 character password because that makes it extremely difficult for hackers. You can use a shorter one if you like  --- eight characters does make a fairly strong password.

Here is … (11 comments)

activerain: Step - by - Step ---- Communication on an International Referral - 10/19/15 02:02 PM
Referrals are an important part of any successful real estate business and require some specialized care.

Most of my referrals are from agents in the United States or Canada who have clients looking to buy or sell in another country.  At a minimum, i need to communicate with three different parties.  Other parties who may need to be kept informed might include an employer,  a spouse in a second location and/or a lender.

To keep it simple I am going to show the basic communication needed for three parties:  the referring agent (I will use the initials AR because I hope many of these … (9 comments)

activerain: Motivational Monday -- Even This Guy Will Stick His Neck Out - 10/19/15 02:53 AM
It is interesting how difficult it is for us to stick our necks out and try things.
I saw this guy in the yard and as i watched him move, I realized that he had to stick his neck out to move ahead.
The same is true for all of us.

activerain: An American Tragedy -- They Have Not Forgotten the Country They Love - 10/01/15 04:30 AM
An American Tragedy --  They Have Not Forgotten the Country They Love.  The United States has deported many Veterans.  These brave men and women have a deep love for the country they served and when you see them staring across the border, it makes you want to cry.

When the flag is upside dow it is a sign of distress.  And what could be worse than veterans who risked their lives for the US, only to be thrown away?

Hector Barajas still loves the country that deported him. To him, it will always be home   --- but unfortunately he can not return … (6 comments)

activerain: Recap for Weeks 3 & 4 of 2012 with Update on Yazmine - 01/29/12 06:32 AM
The December Posting Challenge kept many of us in touch and I am continuing with a recap each week. I'm behind so here is the recap for weeks three and four of 2012.
My office manager Yazmine (a Siamese and great friend) has developed severe kidney problems and many of you have asked me to continue updates.
Yazmine has been doing much better.  I have been giving her subcutaneous fluids most days.  Most of the time she doesn't seem to mind the needle but once in a while her little meow sounds just like someone saying ouch.  Today I was … (11 comments)

activerain: Get Connected in the Rain - 01/21/12 03:36 PM
I love the connections that grow between members of ActiveRain.

One of the ActiveRain Community Guidelines is:  "Get connected. At first ActiveRain may seem so big that you could never be heard, and so small and cliquish that you will never find your place. Everyone experiences this phenomenon! Our suggestion is to start off slow; read blogs, then start commenting on posts that interest you, and once you feel ready, blog away!"

It is fascinating to see newbies in the Rain.  At first they exist as a profile and a photo. Most start slowly and read some … (26 comments)

activerain: Recap for Week 2 of 2012 with Update on Yazmine - 01/17/12 02:01 PM
The December Posting Challenge kept many of us in touch and I am continuing with a recap each week. This is for week two of 2012.
My office manager Yazmine (a Siamese and great friend) has developed severe kidney problems and many of you have asked me to continue updates.
All the prayers and thoughts from everyone here in the Rain seem to be helping.  Yazmine had a good week.  She has her good days and some that are not so good. She seems more alert each day and gradually her strength is building but she is still skin and … (14 comments)

activerain: Trust as Seen Through the Eyes of My Cat - 01/15/12 03:04 PM
My cat, Yazmine, has really taught me about trust.

I've been  giving a lot of serious thought to the subject of trust since it was announced as the ActiveRain challenge this month. I've read dozens of outstanding posts and each of them touched on some part of what trust means to me.

Tonight, I'm looking at Yazmine as she watches me work and suddenly the subject of trust seems so simple. Trust is very simple yet still extremely meaningful to a pet.

Pets can teach us all about trust. Our relationship with each pet is … (14 comments)
