Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children - 03/31/09 09:53 PM
When I first moved to Lewisburg, WV, my neighbor, Maribeth Irwin, asked if I could "Be a Friend of CASA" and be on the fund raising committee.  Of course, I said yes, and have been helping to raise money since moving here in 2006.  We support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes.
In 1977, a Seattle judge conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in court. So successful was this program that soon judges across the … (0 comments)

He was just a little boy..... - 03/23/09 11:01 PM

He was just a little boy, On a week's first day. Wandering home from Bible school, And dawdling on the way.   He scuffed his shoes into the grass; He even found a caterpillar. He found a fluffy milkweed pod, And blew out all the 'filler.'   A bird's nest in a tree overhead, So wisely placed up so high. Was just another wonder, That caught his eager eye.   A neighbor watched his zig zag course, And hailed him from the lawn; Asked him where he'd been that day And what was going on.   'I've been … (5 comments)

Buying a Foreclosed Home or Potential Foreclosure Property - 03/23/09 10:03 AM

Via Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty):

Are you considering buying a foreclosed property? Why not after all there are plenty of them all around the country and they can typically be bought at a discount to the present market value.
Buying a foreclosed home however, is not for the timid at heart and there are many things that buyers need to consider. If you have ever watched a late night infomercial you would think buying a foreclosed home can be bought for 50 cents on the dollar and immediately re-sold for a boat load on money. … (3 comments)

Remember - 03/23/09 09:57 AM

Via Kevin Robinson ~I buy short sales (Crownline Home Builders):
For all of us that are old enough to remember, during the Vietnam War and for a while afterwards, it was very popular to wear little metal bracelets that had a soldiers name engraved on them The names were of soldiers that were either POW or MIA in the war.
As a kid, I wore one that contained the name of a family friend who was shot down over Vietnam. He was captured and later released. A few of us wore in our little circle wore his name bracelet for years until … (0 comments)

Take my Son - 03/22/09 09:20 AM
This is a great story, take a moment to read it, it will make your day!
The ending will surprise you Take my Son A wealthy man and his son loved to collect rare works of art. They had everything in their collection, from Picasso to Raphael. They would often sit together and admire the great works of art. When the Vietnam conflict broke out, the son went to war. He was very courageous and died in battle while rescuing another soldier. The father was notified and grieved deeply for his only son. About a month later, just before Christmas, there was a knock at the … (17 comments)

OH NO--- The Sign was put on the Wrong Property ! - 03/20/09 01:28 PM
I have a listing for some commercial property on Route 219 in Fairlea, West Virginia. The signs we originally put on the property were the regular Realtor signs.  Since this is a busy location, the property needed larger signs, so we ordered two new signs (3x5).
Well, since my partner and I could not put the signs up, my broker Tom Johnson. and my husband, Claude, volunteered to put the wood posts in the ground.  The posts had to go in the ground about a foot or more to ensure stability.
So, after work, I drove by the property to check out the signs.....and OMIGOSH....one … (9 comments)

Have You Ever Heard Amazing Grace Sung in Cherokee? - 03/10/09 04:18 PM
My grandmother was Cherokee.  I did not know much about her childhood.  Except that her father was a Cherokee Chief and gave his female babies away.  Grandmother and her two sisters were raised by white families.  There's a lot I'm learning about the Cherokees, and the one thing that really stands out is the Cherokee music.
I received the below video and it reminded me of my grandmother.  Also, Amazing Grace was my Dad's favorite song.  And, of course, my favorite as well.  So, for these reasons, I wanted to share this beautiful song Amazing Grace.  Enjoy!

Business After Hours - The Greenbrier Clinic - 03/09/09 09:38 PM
I attended the Greenbrier Clinic's Business After Hours of the Greater Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce.  My husband and I have always wanted to go to the Clinic since moving to Lewisburg, WV, in 2007.
The Clinic, formed in 1948, is located in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and is absolutely top shelf.  It is decorated so nice, walking down the halls, you don't feel like it is a Clinic.  Of course, you know it would be top shelf, since it is part of the Greenbrier Resort.
The Greenbrier Clinic is located in the West Virginia wing of the five-star Greenbrier Resort and Conference Center.
The Clinic is … (0 comments)

West Virginia's Economic Distress Ranking - 03/07/09 12:59 PM
The following article was written by Adam Wolfe, Princeton, WV.  The article is about West Virginia's overall "economic distress" ranking last. Yeah, we are proud of that.....

Via Adam Wolfe (Century 21 Four Seasons Properties):
West Virginia is 51st again, but this time it is reason to be proud.  Now before you make a West Virginia joke about not knowing how many states there is in the USA, for the purposes of this data they included Washington, D.C. as a state.  The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation collected data from the Bureau of Labor, United States Department of Agriculture, and RealtyTrac to … (4 comments)
