Legend of the Dogwood Tree - 05/27/09 08:57 PM

After dinner tonight, my husband, Claude, takes Zeke, our chocolate lab, out to play a bit in the yard.  I was in my office, logging onto Active Rain to read some posts, when Claude comes in and hands me a small branch that fell from one of our Dogwood trees.  He proceeds to tell me about the legend of the dogwood tree, which I didn't know.
So, curious me, decides to look this up in the Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (BTW, I use it all the time).  Well, needless to say, Claude was right.  Here is a statement from Wikipedia on the … (4 comments)

An Auction to Remember - Greenbrier Episcopal School 10th Annual Auction - 05/17/09 08:59 PM
Greenbrier Episcopal School (GES) had its Tenth Annual Auction held at the West Virginia Osteopathic Medical School, Lewisburg, West Virginia.  The theme for the night was "A Black Tie Affair".  GES provided free champange for the event.  Each table had bottles of wine to go with a delicious meal prepared by Blackwell's Restaurant.

This event is always so much fun.  My husband and I have attended 3 out of 4 years since moving to Lewisburg in 2005.  At the registration desk, you receive a program that contains your bidder number to bid on both silent and live items.  There were 30+ … (2 comments)

Using First-Time Homebuyer Tax Credits for the Downpayment - It's GONE !!!! - The story of the $8,000 tax credit - 05/15/09 10:54 PM

Via Jeff Belonger -- The FHA Expert.com -- FHA Loans -- FHA mortgages - USDA loans (Infinity Home Mortgage Company, Inc):

The $8,000 first time homebuyers TAX CREDIT - HUD has saved the day. Well, okay, it saved it for a day. It's gone now, recinded, at least for now. Everything that you have been reading about yesterday, about FHA/HUD putting out mortgagee letter 2009-15, it's no longer there. Tom Burris had noticed this yesterday and I just got off the phone this morning with the HUD office. For reasons unknown, this letter, ML 09-15, has been taken off the self. … (0 comments)

I met Timm and his father two years ago, and was impressed with the work they were doing on restoring a home in Lewisburg, WV.  Timm is a remarkable young man.  He was born and raised on his family's farm on Spring Creek in Renick, West Virginia, where he was home schooled. Now he builds and restores wooden boats. A dream come true.

For All The Mothers - 05/09/09 02:42 PM
Tomorrow is Mother's Day.  A day we remember our beloved mothers.
Every Mother's Day, our entire family would be home and attending the family church.  Now since there were 11 children, some with spouses and children, the Vasvary family would take up quite a few pews on Mother's Day.  Mother loved this day as she new all her family would be together at church and dinner.
I remember the last time the family attended church together.....it was Mother's Day.  My mother was dying, she had pancreatic cancer and died September 2, 1967.  Se was a remarkable woman and mother.
But, her … (5 comments)

Talk about a busy person....then meet my hairdresser .  Julie Hansen, is the best. She cuts and colors my hair perfectly.  I found Julie 2 years ago and didn't think I would find anyone in Lewisburg, West Virginia, who could cut and color my hair like my hairdresser in Alexandria, Virginia, did.   Well, Julie proved me wrong.  She listens to what you want ... the style, cut, and color.....and that is what you get.
