The WVAR REALTOR® Institute presented two real estate classes to the Greenbrier Valley Board of Realtors (GVBR) on May 20, 21 and 22.
 
The first was an Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) Designation Course May 20 and 21 at the Fairfield Hotel in Lewisburg, West Virginia.  Eleven agents received the training and are now ABR candidates.

Lewisburg, West Virginia, and the General Lewis Inn are named after General Andrew Lewis. In 1774, General Andrew Lewis arriving at Fort Savannah, lead pioneer soldiers north to defeat Chief Cornstalk at the Battle of Point Pleasant. In 1908. the 60th Congress of the U.S. declared the Battle of Point Pleasant the official first battle of the American Revolution. The General Lewis Inn, is located on the site of an 1862 Civil War Battle.

Alderson, West Virginia is a small town in Greenbrier and Monroe Counties located along the Greenbrier River.  The population of Alderson is about 1,100 with the Federal Prison Camp, Alderson, being the largest employer.  The prison is for minimum-security female inmates and is where Martha Stewart was imprisoned for a short while.

Transportation by car is the best way to see this historic town; or nearby is the Greenbrier Valley Airport located in Lewisburg, WV; or take Amtrak, the national passenger rail service, providing service to Alderson under the Cardinal route.

The Greenbrier's first annual Community Children's Easter Fun Fest received over 4,000 pounds of canned food items which were donated to four local food banks.  Community food pantries in White Sulphur Springs, Ronceverte,  Alderson and Monroe County……....each received a significant quantity of food, thanks to the generosity of the over 2,500 participants.  The March 28th event featured jolly jumps, face painting, a juggler, a magician, crafts and a 7,000-egg hunt on the North Lawn. Prayers Needed for the Coal Mining Victims of the Raleigh County Mine Explosion - 04/06/10 11:12 PM
I am a coal miner's daughter and know the dangers of coal mining.   My dad started working at the age of 12 to help support his family.  Dad was born in West Virginia, but his parents were from Budapest, Hungary.  Dad would tell stories of when he first started in the mines.....when miners use to crawl on their belly to get to coal.  I remember how my mom use to worry about him working in the mines.  We were very lucky that he came home every day.  Not to say there weren't any accidents, but nothing like we heard about this … (6 comments)
