paying it forward: Paying it Forward - Helping the Children of Namibia - 11/25/17 09:19 PM
I  wrote a post on the orphans and the vulnerable children in Namibia  for the Bread of Life Foundation Namibia last year. I am on the board of this charitable foundation.  One of the board members, Rebecca Mink, was going to Namibia in May and needed to take warm clothes for the children since it would be winter time there and they were in dire need of  clothes. The temps drop to 30 degrees or lower in the evening/night.

To help in this endeavor, I went to yard sales and purchased all the children clothes I could find to send to Namibia…. … (36 comments)

Paying It Forward - To Those Who Are Sick

A few months ago I was in the hospital with pancreatitis. While there, my friend, Mickey McCoy, visited me.  She had read a post that I wrote while in the hospital, "FROG, I Could Use One Right Now!"  and she brought me the cutest ceramic frog.  The card that was on the frog read:

I'm Angel Cheeks, your Guardian Angel,
I will be there when nobody else is, to care, kiss away tears and bring smiles on rainy days.  And always -- to be a very best friend.  … (10 comments)

My friend Lora Pierce is the Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of West Virginia.   When I found out that she was working a booth at the State Fair, and had no volunteers to assist .... I immediately said I would volunteer to help set up and work at the booth.

So, today we arrived at 8:30 am, set up the Habitat for Humanity booth and were ready by 9:00 am.  It was a warm, breezy day to be at the fair.  We had quite a few people stop by the booth.  We answered questions, gave out pamphlets and of course, … (8 comments)

Pay It Forward, Helping My Friend Prepare for an Open House

My good friend, Pat Wilks, is moving to Mississippi.  Since her husband has recovered from an illness, and she has closed her Forget-Me-Not Christian Book Store, they are trying to save money by selling their home...a For Sale by Owner.
Her husband and brother in-law moved most of their belongings to Mississippi.  Pat is such a good person. This year has been really hard for her, closing and packing up her store, her house and being the care taker for her elderly … (16 comments)

paying it forward: Paying It Forward to the Volunteers Who Lost Everything! - 07/28/11 08:41 AM

Last night I received a call from Donna DeHart, Director of Development for Habitat for Humanity of West Virginia.  She was waiting  for a van bringing 15 teenagers from Pendleton County to White Sulphur Springs to volunteer for the Greenbrier Classic for the rest of the week.   On the way, the van caught on fire.  Thankfully, no one was hurt!   But, the van was destroyed and they lost everything in the fire.  Their clothes, cameras, phones, sleeping bags, and other personal items all burned with the van.
Another van was sent from Virginia to get … (12 comments)

Paying It Forward, Making Breakfast for Our Neighbors as They Start Their New Journey!

Our neighbors Maribeth and Bill Irwin, and their three children, Ryan, Theresa and Willy are moving to Florida.  The packers for the moving company have been working for the last three days and by Saturday morning the house across the street will be quiet until the new family moves in.  We have thoroughly enjoyed having the Irwins as neighbors, and especially watching their three children grow and develop.

When my husband, Claude, and I had to travel and it was not conducive … (12 comments)

Last Thursday I was traveling to Peterstown, WV to help my friend with her computer.  About a one hour drive from my home.  It started to rain so I slowed my speed as Route 219 is a very curvy road.   At one point I was going into a curve (my speed was 25mph) and my car started to slide. I went to the left, the right and almost into the hillside. I got the car straight and thank goodness there wasn't a car coming in the opposite direction.  That's when I noticed oil on the road and with … (18 comments)

My good friend Pat and her husband, Joe, moved from Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Peterstown, West Virginia in 2009. Joe was recovering from meningitis and thought it would be good for both of them if they moved to West Virginia to be near family.

After buying a house, Pat wanted to open a Christian book store.  She found a rental building, and started her new business .... Forget Me Not Christian Book Store,  July 9, 2010.

paying it forward: Paying It Forward - Lending a Helping Hand to a Family Member - 05/31/11 06:55 AM

My nephew, Joseph, and his wife, Kristin, and two sons live in Richmond, VA.   Kristin called my sisters and I to help her paint their kitchen cabinets.  Their townhouse has been on the market for some time, and by painting the cabinets white they hope will make it more appealing to buyers.
So my sisters, Avis and Linda, who live in Charlotte, NC, drove to my home in Lewisburg, WV and spent the night with me.  The next morning, Wednesday, we drove to Richmond...about 3.5 hours.
Besides painting the kitchen cabinets, we decided the walls in the kitchen and … (13 comments)
